Sassy Saturday 2

Spoilers are below – even if they don’t look like spoilers, they are. Please read THE FALSE PRINCE before reading this post.

Today’s episode of “Why-Can’t-Jaron-Just-Shut-Up-For-Once” is brought to you by THE RUNAWAY KING. Do you have any favorite lines of his sass from this book?

I’ve got to put more than one… 😀

    #1

Devlin crouched down to face me. “You’d better learn fast that if you interfere with someone else’s punishment, it’s going to become yours. Especially when you make such wild claims.”

Wordlessly, I reached for his meaty hand. Into his open palm I dropped the rope that had tied me. “Thanks for the warning,” I said, still breathless. “But I never make wild claims.”

    #2

Roden stood back as I passed him, the point of his sword dangling somewhere above me. I reached the sword by my fingertips and inched it into my hand. Using my other hand to prop myself up, I raised the sword and forced a slight smile to my face. “This is your last chance to surrender,” I said, my words barely audible to my own ears, much less his.

I love this so much! Jaron is definitely known for his wonderful sass. I think my favorite lines of sass from the Runaway King is when Fink tells Sage that he should use words like please and thank you. Sage tells Fink “then I will thank you to please stay out of my business.” I use this line whenever someone tells me to say please and thank you.🤣
Thank you so much Mrs. Nielsen!

“Why-Can’t-Jaron-Just-Shut-Up-For-Once” – LOL, that had me cracking up. 🙂 But we all love him despite his reckless tongue. I LOVE all the quotes you chose. Personally, I did’t think the pirates could handle Jaron. He was way more trouble than they had thought.
Okay, here’s my favorite Jaron sass/quote:
“Why were you asking Fink about the priest?”
“I have some sins to confess,” I said. “For ruining the life of the last man to kidnap me.”

I agree with you! I can’t believe I had forgotten about that one! It’s such a sarcastic quote!

Sassy Saturdays are my favorite! Okay… be prepared for a long post…

In the center was a small table. Lying on it were my knife, sword, and the satchel of coins I’d given to Fink.

Erick motioned to the items. “Explain these.”

I flashed a wry smile. “If you don’t know what these are, then you’re in the wrong business.”

    Also…

All I could hope was that they gave me a chance to speak before they killed me. Although as I thought about it, it was usually only after I began speaking that most people felt like murdering me.
Okay, this is the last one, I promise:

“Ah.” Vargan put a finger to his face while he studied me. “You’re such a young king. I barely remember being your age.”

“Then clearly we’re talking about how old you are, not how young I am.”

“You wouldn’t want to be king of my country,” I said.
    “Why is that?”
“Well, you’re rather fat. I doubt you’d fit on my throne.”

OH MY GOSH! Yes! Here is my favorite quote from The Runaway King!:

“‘You wouldn’t want to be king of my country,’ I said.
    ‘Why is that?’
‘Well, you’re rather fat. I doubt you’d fit on my throne.'”

“Is it true?” Devlin asked me. “You’re Prince Jaron?”
“KING Jaron, actually. News must travel slower amongst the illiterate.” I glared at Gregor with every inch of disdain I felt. “Shouldn’t you be groveling to me or bowing or something?”
Gregor smiled. “I think before I have the chance, you will already be dead.”
“Ah. So much for all your toasts to my long life.”

Here’s one I really like from chapter two: Roden:”‘And if you try to hide, we’ll take the people you love and punish them for your cowardice. I know exactly whose death would hurt you most.’ ‘Maybe that’s your death,’ I said. ‘Why don’t you go ahead and punish yourself right now?'”

    Ooh! Good ones. Also:
“You just need more discipline. And a great deal of practice.”
Jaron: “The practice I can do, but nobody’s ever been much good at disciplining me.”

“I’m very glad you said that. Because until hearing you speak just now, I had thought i was the most ridiculous ruler in these lands.”

“I have some sins to confess,” I said. “For ruining the life of the last man to kidnap me.”

“Which part do you object to?” Gregor asked. ”
The part where you began speaking.”

Here’s a few others from my quote book!

    *Spoilers for The Runaway King*

Roden sat beside me and smiled at me sympathetically. “There’s no one here who can fix that leg.”
“You should’ve thought of that before you broke it.”

These two are so great haha!

Just a quick query and I understand if you can’t answer. In The Captive Kingdom, how old will Jaron be?

Devlin said, “Some of us have never gotten over the disappointment of failing to kill you.”
“There are several people who share your disappointment,” I said. “Frankly I don’t think it’s fair that you should get to kill me when there were others who wanted to do it first.”

Devlin answered his own question. “He thought he had the young prince of Carthya at his church, a boy who somehow escaped from a ship we attacked.”
“You must have felt so stupid when he escaped,” I said. “How long did it take to realize you’d been tricked by a ten-year-old boy?”

Now Roden turned to me. “You ignored my treat last week.”
    “Looks that way.”

“You will follow my orders now.” The others looked up at him, not sure what to expect next. Then he nodded at me. “Get Jaron down from there and someone find him a shirt. Put him in the jail until I decide what to do with him next.”
“My traitorous captain of the guard is in the jail,” I said. “One of us is bound to kill the other in there, so if you want access to us both, I’d suggest taking me elsewhere.”

Roden sat beside me and smiled sympathetically. “There’s no one here who can fix that leg.”
“You should’ve thought of that before you broke it.”
“There was no need to fix the leg of a dead man.”
“Ah. How’s your leg where I stabbed you?”
    “It hurts.”
    “Good.”

I reached for the knife from Imogen and stabbed Roden’s thigh. He yelped and leapt away. “Those leg wounds hurt, don’t you think?” I said.

These were just some of my favorites. Sorry for the long post. Also, I admire your ability to right such a great and sassy character, Mrs. Jennifer. I can laugh at his sass while still wishing he wouldn’t make things worse for himself. It’s a true talent.

These are hilarious! My personal favorite is from “The Runaway King”:
“How does it feel?” Fink asked.
“Like butterfly kisses, what do you think?”
Even thinking about it makes me laugh!
