Today’s wonderfulness is so exciting to me, a cover reveal for THE SCOURGE!
But wait, you ask…hasn’t that book been out for a while?
Yes, but Scholastic is finally putting it into paperback and they have given it a fresh new cover, one which I love.
And it’s oddly well-timed, since we’re sort of in the middle of our own scourge. The paperback won’t be released until spring 2021, but you get to be the first to see the cover here, and that is simply wonderful!
If you don’t know this book, a summary is below.
As a lethal plague sweeps through the land, Ani Mells is shocked when she is unexpectedly captured by the governor’s wardens and forced to submit to a test for the deadly Scourge. She is even more surprised when the test results come back positive, and she is sent to Attic Island, a former prison turned refuge—and quarantine colony—for the ill. The Scourge’s victims, Ani now among them, can only expect to live out short, painful lives there.
However, Ani quickly discovers that she doesn’t know the whole truth about the Scourge or the Colony. She’s been caught in a devious plot, and, with the help of her best friend, Weevil, Ani means to uncover just what is actually going on. But will she and Weevil survive the Scourge—and the gorvernor’s wardens—long enough to make their escape and expose the cruel plan?

The new cover looks AMAZING!!! I’ve been wanting to read The Scourge for a while now, but haven’t gotten to it. Now I’m really wanting to read it.
It’s pretty good! 😁
This was the first of your books that I read. Its actually kind of funny, I’d read The Scourge and didn’t realize, when I read The False Prince, that both (AMAZING!!!!!) books were written by you! I absolutely love this new cover! Definitely a Wonderful Wednesday!
Wow! I’ve heard of this book but didn’t know what it was about. Now that I’ve read the summary I want to read the book. It sounds awesome!
And the new cover looks amazing! Love the cover reveal. Mrs. Nielsen, you have truly made Wednesday “wonderful”.
Thank you.
Wow! This cover is spectacular and fits the story perfectly!
That’s so cool, I loved Scrouge!
That name, Weevil, sounds familiar. Didn’t Sage say Mrs. Turbeldy would have them eat the pieces of bean bread with weevils because it was extra nutritious?
Haha, yes. That’s part of why I chose Weevil as a character name, because it’s just the worst possible name, and yet I adore the character of Weevil. I liked sort of turning that word into something good.
It looks awesome ! Just wondering , any tips for writing a book ? I’m writing a ww2 book .
Hi Mary, if you are writing a historical, do your research about everything. Don’t assume you know something, just research and get into the details (the details are where the story comes alive). Good luck!
Your books inspire me so much! This is definitely a cool cover!
Ahh I love it! Read that one once I finished Ascendence trilogy and craved more of your writing! Thank you for sharing!

Congrats on the paperback release, Jennifer! I just re-read this one recently; it’s such an impactful and well-told story. The characters are great and the plot is so cleverly spun. BTW, I really like all these new blog posts! I look forward to reading them every day. 🙂
