For those of you who have already read MARK OF THE THIEF – I hope you’ve enjoyed it!

For those who haven’t, this book trailer shouldΒ really make you want to read it now.

We commissioned the art from an absolutely amazing artist named Cameron Gardner – check out his stuff here. The music came from a compilation of two different songs by a fabulous band, IExist, who has a ton of other great music.

The trailer itself was animated and put togetherΒ by my husband, Jeff Nielsen, because he’s got crazy amounts of talent.

You must, must watch this now – until I figure out how to embed this video (gotta be honest, my husband will figure it out) – click HERE!

p.s. To further illustrate his awesomeness, Jeff created this gift for me, just because. It’s a modeled version of Nic’s bulla which Jeff had 3-D printed for me in metal.

  1. Mrs Nielsen –
I watched the trailer and it is amazing. Very interesting and sort of gives you a feel of Mark of the Thief. The bulla is so lovely and wonderful.
I read Mark of the Thief and it is so great. AMAZING. WONDERFUL. It is like a dream.
So, anyways – I cannot wait for A Night Divided (a bit early, I think, to be saying that…)
    – Loreley

    • Thank you very much! And I can’t wait for A Night Divided to release either – not at all too early for me to admit that!

      • What is the expected release date for the second book after Mark of the Thief?

      • When is book two for the praetor war coming out?

        • Probably next February, I’d guess! Sorry it’s such a long wait – but luckily there are so many awesome books to discover until then!

      • when shall the next book be realesed

        • Wrath of the Storm will come out on January 29, 2017. I hope you’ll look for it!

    • Hi. I was wondering what the second book would be called?

      • The title hasn’t been announced yet, but I think it will be soon!

      • i d know

  2. Oh, yeah – completely forgot. Any movie news?

  3. that looks so cool the book is great i love nic and the roman seting is good, the trailer is cool to you husband does great work:)

  4. Oh my gosh that trailer is so awesome. The mark of the thief is really good too πŸ™‚

  5. WOW! Such a good trailer

  6. WOW that was so cool! Is there a trailer like that for TFP?

  7. Wow, the bulla looks exactly like I imagined! And the picture above is amazing!

  8. That is awesome. I didn’t know you were married. My library still hasn’t gotten the book. πŸ™

    • Darn library! I know sometimes orders take a lot of time. And yep, I am married and have three kids too!

  9. That Bulla… it’s beautiful!

  10. Are they making a movie of the false prince?

  11. Okay, thanks! I hope more news comes too.

  12. Your husband is definitely talented. AMAZING trailer! I love the music and illustrations. The bulla is awesome, and looks just as I imagined it would! Can’t wait for this August!

  13. Hello. What is the book called after the Mark of the Thief? P.S. I read the False Prince over the summer, and it was amazing. Within a day I was requesting the second and third books. That trilogy is easily my favorite.

    • Thanks very much, Devin! The title for the second book hasn’t been announced yet, but I should be able to release it soon!

  14. I finally got the book!! OMGGGGG! I am so excited… but my mom says I cant read it until I finish the book I am reading now (Not that the one I am reading isn’t good, I JUST CAN”T WAIT!!!)

    • Yes, definitely finish the book you’re on, but hurry! I hope you’ll enjoy Mark of the Thief! Thanks, Kate –

  15. You HAVE written the second book, though? Already? Man, what I’d give to know the plot, or better yet, read it! What about the third book? Have you started writing that? And when’s the 2nd due to release? Sorry for all the questions! : }

    • I’m actually outlining the third book right now – crazy, right? The only thing I’ve said so far about the second book is it will take Nic to the chariot races. It should probably release next February.

  16. I read the Ascendance trilogy, and it was amazing! You are truly wonderful at writing plot twists. Speaking of plot twists, the end of The Mark of the Thief made me panic. I wouldn’t leave my room until I finished the book, and that last bit made my heart stop. I can’t wait to hear the next part of Nic’s adventures.

    • Thanks so much, Anishi! I’m glad you’ve enjoyed all of the books. Just a warning though – it’s only going to be harder on Nic in Book 2. You know now where he is when the book begins, and that won’t be easy!

  17. Oh my goodness, that book was so amazing! All I want is to read more! I can’t wait till FEBRUARY!!! Agh, by the time it comes out, I’ll be bald from all the times I ripped my hair out because of impatience. Good luck with the third book!

    • Sophia – I’m glad you enjoyed it. I will keep my fingers crossed that the next book is released before your hair is entirely gone! πŸ˜‰

      • I appreciate that! Thank you!

  18. Hi Mrs. Nielsen! Do you know when A Night Divided is coming out? I may have not caught it if you said it before. Thanks!

  19. I loved the book, it is amazing I couldn’t put it down.

  20. My brother bought Mark of the Thief on Saturday, claiming it was a gift for me, but really, he wants to read it too. πŸ˜› I finished it today at lunch. Holy. It was amazing. I can’t wait to read book 2 already. Darn, so much waiting! I still remember it was the middle of 2013 and I thought, “Wow, I have to wait months for The Shadow Throne to come out.” Time flies by. Anyway, love your books! Also, your husband has crazy skills. That trailer was so cool, and the bulla’s beautiful!

    • Thanks, Ally – I’m so glad you enjoyed it! And I especially appreciate that your brother bought you the book as a gift (for him, just a little bit)! πŸ˜‰ Yes, the hubby has mad levels of talent!

  21. I was not expecting that in chapter 21!!!! What else can go wrong!

    • Oh gosh, Aubrey – as you’ve probably already found out, there is a lot more than can still go wrong! But it makes for fun reading though! πŸ˜‰

  22. I can totally agree on that, I finished it 10 minutes ago. It definitely makes it more interesting. The last sentence freaked me out for a second after I flipped the page. I totally hadn’t realized it was the end because I was reading it on my kindle, and didn’t bother looking at how far I was through the book!

  23. i just finshed reading the first book it’s so awesome i mean how nic is so drained of his magic and then finds out that rudluf is his grand father.omg i can’t wait tell book 2

    • Thank you, Hugo! I think you’ll enjoy the second book a lot. Things will just get harder for Nic, and he’ll be competing in the chariot races! It’s gonna be epic!

  24. i know it will from the ending of this book i just can’t wait tell it goes to my school i mean i already have the money, this 2nd book will be awesome

  25. yep can’t wait but those that mean radluf failed to take away nics magic

    • Radulph thinks he took all of the magic, but he didn’t. To get all of Nic’s magic, he’ll have to kill Nic, something Nic now understands. (And which makes things even more dangerous for him.)

  26. wow book 2 will be epic but one more question what will happen to celea

  27. yay i can’t wait ceala is awesome to bad she had to leave when nic said go cuase of the preators

  28. Our teacher read The False Prince to us and we were hooked. We begged her to read the rest of the trilogy and we absolutely loved it! Then our school librarian bought us the book The Mark of the Thief and it was AWESOME!! We can’t wait to see what happens in book 2! WE ARE HUGE FANS OF YOUR WORK! Thank you for giving us such interesting stories to read! We love all the unexpected twists in the plot!!

    • This is too awesome – thank you very much! I’m glad you’ve enjoyed my books. Please tell your teacher a thank you from me!

  29. Hi Ms. Nielsen,

I just wanted to let you know that my seven-year-old son LOVED Mark of the Theif. He is now 8 and had read The False Prince and is almost done with The Runnaway King. He can’t wait for the sequel to Mark of the Theif! He asks me to google whether the sequel has been released from time to time. When I told him he could say something to you on here he got very excited and exclaimed, “tell her to make it NOW! Also, Tell her her to make another action book because I love the books you make.” Ironically, he just finished The Runaway King and jumped up to get The Shadow Throne. He is actually teary eyed saying, “I am so sad. When I am done I’ll be all finished with my favorite series. This even overtook Percy Jackson!”

    • Thanks so much, Tina. He must be quite a reader! I’m very glad that he’s enjoyed these books. For kids like him, it is an honor to write.

  30. Hi, I am in the 6th grade, and my class praises your books. I love them so much! They beautifully written and can never be put down. I have spent a lot of the night in your fantastic books. Thank you for all that you do. A little while back you skiped my class. Thank you so so so much for that. It was a chance in a lifetime that I got to be a part of. You are the best author ever. Mark of the Thief is by far and probably forever, the best book I’ve ever read. You have a gift. Thank you for writing such wonderful books.

    • Thank you very much, Andrea. I’m glad I was able to Skype with your class, and even happier that you enjoyed Mark of the Thief. As long as there are awesome readers like you out there,e I will always keep writing!

      • OK! I adore the books the you, Mrs. Nielsen wrote, but topping Percy Jackson and Rick will be hard! But, at the end of The False Prince series, my heart ached for more! Literally, no book has EVER made my heart ache like it did! You truly have a gift! I have to admit it though, your books have to be tied with Percy Jackson! And thats saying alot! I LOVE YOU MRS> NIELSEN!!!!!!! KEEP WRITING!!!

  31. I AM NOT HAPPY! I thought “A Night Divided” was the second book of “The Mark Of The Thief”!!!!! Why didn’t anyone say that it wasn’t!!! UGG! I got so excited that I looked up the named!!! IT LOOKS LIKE AN ADULT BOOK! I’M ONLY 11! My mom will NEVER allow me to read it! Hump! I thought you were a child reader! Wait… A CHILD BOOK WRITER! I am so upset!

    You angry friend,

    • No worries, Lanie – luckily, I get to tell you that A Night Divided is a book for readers just your age. The main character is 12 years old. But I am sorry you misunderstood that it was the second Mark of the Thief book – that will be released next February. I just turned in the proofreading pages for it today, in fact.

  32. I’m so sorry Mrs. Nielsen! I lost my temper! (And no, I don’t have anger issues!) Its just that I live with 6 other kids and I’m in the middle so everyone fights about dumb things. I shouldn’t have said those things. I’m sorry.

    Your Sorry Friend,
Lanie (You don’t have to say, “Its OK” or “Its all good” or anything like that)

    • Yeah, I have siblings too. It’s all good. πŸ˜‰ (Had to say that, because you told me not to!)

  33. First of all, Mark of the Thief was a fantastic book! It’s one of my favorites. Second of all, do you have any merchandise? Because I want a bulla too!

    • Thanks very much, Karina. I’m so glad you liked it. If you want to see the title and cover for the second book, you can find it here:

I’m sorry that I don’t really have any merchandise for this series, though I agree, it would be cool to be able offer the bulla to those who want one!

  34. Hi my name is Sebastian and me and my class have read Mark of The Thief we all really like we can’t wait till the second book comes out you are a very talented writer and are very smart to add some roman history. Thank you from the kids at p10x@15 in Bronx,New York

    • Thanks very much, Sebastian! I hope you’ll enjoy book 2 just as much! Say hi to everyone at p10x@15!

  35. I read Mark of the thief almost right after the release date on February! And I loved it so much! I can’t believe that there’s a second book coming out! Thank you for writing such a lovely novel

  36. I also read the ascendance trilogy and can’t wait for the movie! Thank you for such a great series as well!

    • I’m so glad you enjoyed that too. Fingers crossed for a movie – more news on that in August!

  37. I love your book it totes awesome and I read it like 1,000,000,000,000,000,000 times!πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ€“πŸ€“πŸ€“πŸ€“πŸ€“πŸ˜

    • I gotta be honest – that’s a lot of reads. But I’m glad you enjoyed it so much – thank you!

    • That’s a big number πŸ€“

  38. Hi I read your book mark of the thief. I absolutely loved it, it is the best book I have ever read. I loved it so much that I got my school librarian to special order it for me, I can’t wait to read it. I liked it so much that I chose to write a book report about it. You are the best author ever.

  39. Oh my gosh, these books are amazing and I love them, these are my type of books. I’ve already read both of the books and they are amazing, I am really exited about the third book, but I have some questions about the third book, Is it going to be the last book in the series? I also have one thing Mrs.Nielsen, is there going to be a movie? I think there should be one because it’s that good. Keep up the good work Mrs.Nielsen, and Merry Christmas.

    • Hi Austin – thanks so much for reading these books, I’m very glad that you enjoyed them. The third book of the series will be the last, but it has my most favorite ending of any book I’ve ever written, so it’s one I hope you’ll look forward to. As of now, there are no plans for this to become a movie, although that could always change in the future. I hope you have a wonderful Christmas too!

      • Thank you much Mrs. Nielsen

  40. Mrs. Nielsen, I have heard about the ascendence trilogy movie, well the movies about the books and I just got the 3rd book in the Mark of The Thief series (yayπŸ˜ƒπŸ‘πŸΌ) and I have only read the first chapter and I’m pumped about the secret ending that would blow my mind. I’m loving these books and looking forward to reading A Night Divided, and the assendence triolgy. You are my favorite author and keep up the good work.

  41. Jennifer, you came to my school for writing strategies and it totally worked! Thanks🀩

  42. Jennifer, Thanks for the writing lessons, it was great! I want to write my own book but don’t know what to do it about. Any suggestions?

    • Hi Lena – I’m so glad you’re writing! If you’re looking for an idea to write about, consider doing a google search for “writing prompts.” Scroll through and find the one that appeals to you – I’m sure your imagination just needs a little nudge and then you’re off and writing something amazing!

  43. 😊 Thank you
