[…] This cover is so cool! The synopsis of this novel is that Kestra has been in exile for several years and is now discovering underground rebellions against their supposedly mortal king. Featuring danger, action, and romance, this new teen novel is probably the #1 most-anticipated YA novel of 2018. I’ll be back with a review as soon as I read it! You can read Jennifer’s post about it from its release day (today) here: http://jennielsen.com/archives/2379. […]

    Hi Mrs. Nielson.
You probably don’t remember me, but I commented on the Rise of the Wolf comment string. I was just wondering if you had any advice for me as I’m attempting to write my book (fantasy novel). I’m rereading Tolkien’s LOTR Trilogy, for those are my favorite novels. I’m 15 in high school, and I know a few authors who wrote their novel at a young age. Should I wait to try to write it when I’m older and (hopefully) more peaceful and when I have more time? Or should I take a swing now? I do admit I’m not familiar with writing such a big piece. Should I aim just to write for myself and own fun, or write to publish? Forgive me for my bombardment of questions. I really appreciate any inkling of advice, for I know not if I should run with this.
    Thank You so Very Much

Hello! I think it’s awesome that you are beginning to write! My question is, why would you wait? Regardless of whether you get published now or later, you can be working on your skills now and figuring out now if writing is something you enjoy as a hobby or if it’s something you want to consider for a career. So for now, just write. Work on your story idea, work on your writing skills. That process will answer your other questions. Best of luck to you! (And for what it’s worth, I think it’d be pretty amazing if you got your name on a book before you took your last step out of high school.)

I may get my name on a book before 7th grade, I’m working on one right now.

Hi Jennifer Nielsen! I have a question (or three). Was Gregor killed by the pirates, or did they spare him? If they spared him, would he escape their camp? Could that eventually become a problem for Jaron?

Hey Emma – no, Gregor was not spared by the pirates. He was betrayed by those he used for his betrayal.

Wow. That was a fantastic book! I loved it. I was so in awe, I read it in less than a day! You crafted such a compelling plot and extremely complex and lovable characters. I’ve been reading your books for since “The False Prince”. With this book, it was awesome to read since it was still your marvelous style, yet geared at an older crowd. I cannot wait for the books to come!
