Thanks also for all of your thoughts from last week’s post. I must say, I feel more hope for humanity after reading them, that there are still so many wonderful people in the world with courage and good hearts.
“Are you all right?” Rubin asked, helping me to sit up.
“You said it’d be easy if I rolled,” I told him. “You said the ground would be soft.”
“Are you all right?” Meriam echoed.
“That depends.” My smile at them was hopeful. “What did we get from that train?”
“What did we get?” Meriam laughed. “My friend, we have one crate of canned stew, two crates of potatoes, and some military field supplies that should fetch a good price on the black market.”
I leaned back against the slope and tried to do the math. It was enough food for the residents of a single building in the ghetto for a single night. The field supplies might provide bribe money to obtain twenty blank identification papers, or to smuggle two or three children out of the ghettos.
“It isn’t enough.” I stood, determined to ignore the first aches of oncoming bruises. “When is the next raid?”
For the giveaway, this week’s question is: If you were organizing a resistance against the Nazis, aside from weapons, what is the one item you would find most valuable to steal?

I think a valuable item to steal would include food. If we’re starting a resistance, then we’ve got to make sure we’re as strong as we can be.
The documents they have like maps containing the plans and ideas they have on what to do next in order to also plan how to fight and distract their plans.
Papers, official documents. The Nazis kept their genocide secret from their people because it could cause riots and unrest. It was a silent genocide, and those people who hated the victims, or pretended to, thought they were only been sent to work, or out of the country. I would try to find official documents ordering and describing the Final Solution and tone down the inexplicable support for the Fuhrer, by revealing his true side.
And I’d probably get killed, imprisonned or the like in the process…
Anything containing information- communications, maps, messages, plans
Ooh, this one is hard! Um, I think food maybe. It would weaken their food supplies and just weaken them in general, plus you would get more food. RESISTANCE is so close to coming out! I’m super excited!
For some reason I just barely realized that they are stealing food, but I was just thinking of something important that both sides would need besides weapons and food was the first thing I thought of. So even though it’s something mentioned already, hopefully it still works.
Oooh, this is a hard one…. I thought of money first because you can buy food, clothing, and almost anything, depending on how much money you have. The next things I thought of were important documents that had the Nazis battle plans or where and when Hitler’s next meeting would take place. What is the official date that Resistance comes out?? I can’t wait!

The most valuable thing to steal would be clothes because during the war it was nearly impossible to get new clothes especially if you were a Jew. After awhile peoples clothes would grow threadbare and become unsuitable to warm them from the cold of winter. Also if they had more clothes on it would keep them warmer causing their body to use less energy to keep them warm which would help them avoid starvation longer enabling them more time to either escape or find more food.
Nazi plans. While food is important, that’s only thinking for bare survival. Plans will allow for more effective resistance that would allow people to get out of their situation faster.
Medicine, I don’t know how much of it was actually around or shipped, but it would be vital items. For use and sale.
I think that there are different options. One would be Nazi uniforms to infiltrate their system as well as the more obvious, food and blankets. I think that for the food, you couldn’t just get brownies or cake, you would have to get something that lasted, and also had some sort of nutritional value.
I think money would be the most important thing to steal, because you would be able to buy the supplies you would need to fight back, as well as to help people escape.
Tough call! I think one might be able to scavenge food, but bribe money or something that could provide it might be more valuable.
I’d say whatever items can be liquidated for the most cash that can be used to buy things to aid in the effort. I’d go without food for a night if it meant “smuggling two or three children out of the ghettos”, but then again I’ve never gone hungry. I do think having hope is essential and small victories in a big effort do that, perhaps more than something in the belly? Excited for the release date!
I would try to get my hands on some telecommunication device and hack into Nazi messages.
I think the most important thing to steal would be intelligence about the Nazi communication lines and the high command. If you don’t know who’s leading that group of Nazis, how can you stop them? Obtaining communication lines would be invaluable because messages can be sent to the Nazis and their commanders with false information. This buys more time for the resistance to plan and smuggle more than ” two or three children” from the ghettos. Beat them with intelligence, not brute force.
The other most used important thing to steal would be support. Showing the Nazi supporters how badly people were being treated and get them to help you resist.
If you could steal the hearts of a few good people that would be the best thing. Obviously food would help, too.
I would steal their cipher so I could understand their coded messages!
Steal paper to write messages to people, food for everyone to eat, documents, get some help of people along the way, weapons for protection, items of comfort, and last but not least. A torch for lighting the way.
I’ll admit I had a hard time settling on an answer to the question above, and in the end, I turned to my family for help. After listening to each of their suggestions, I decided that the most valuable item to steal is any document pertaining to cryptography (or code). Any hidden information pertaining to the Nazis would help the resistance significantly.
It could be very beneficial to steal uniforms so that the resistance members could dress up like Nazi’s and possibly get behind enemy lines easier.
Intelligence! I don’t know how you steal that, but I bet it’d be helpful!
Part of the resistance might be needing access to the inside, so I am going to saw papers and a uniform so you can blend in and have access to their secured locations.
I haven’t been able to get into the Quote 5 post since I replied to it. It just keeps saying that the page is not found. I don’t know what’s going on with it.
