RESCUE Cover! Jennifer Nielsen April 26, 2020

RESCUE Cover!

Thanks to all of you who played. Across all of the blogs, we had hundreds of answers, and the entire cover was revealed in less than an hour and a half – you were so fast!

BUT…we do have a winner! Congratulations Carson L!

For those who entered in hopes of receiving an ARC of THE CAPTIVE KINGDOM or of RESCUE, no worries! I still have many copies of TCK to give away over the next few months, and when I receive ARCs of RESCUE, I will be giving them away here on my blog as well!

In the meantime…

RESCUE will be released on March 2, 2021. Here is the summary:

Six hundred and fifty-seven days ago, Meg Kenyon’s father left their home in France to fight for the Allies in World War II, and that was the last time Meg saw him. Recently, she heard he was being held prisoner by the Nazis, a terrible sentence from which Meg fears he’ll never return. All she has left of him are the codes he placed in a jar for her to decipher, an affectionate game the two of them shared. But the codes are running low, and soon there’ll be nothing left of Papa for Meg to hold on to at all.

Suddenly, an impossible chance to save her father falls into Meg’s lap. After following a trail of blood in the snow, Meggie finds an injured British spy hiding in her grandmother’s barn. Captain Stewart tells her that a family of German refugees must be guided across Nazi-occupied France to neutral Spain, whereupon one of them has promised to free Meg’s father. Captain Stewart was meant to take that family on their journey, but too injured to complete the task himself, he offers it to Meg, along with a final code from Papa to help complete the mission — perhaps the most important, and most difficult, riddle she’s received yet.

As the Nazis flood Meg’s village in fierce pursuit, she accepts the duty and begins the trek across France. Leading strangers through treacherous territory, Meg faces danger and uncertainty at every turn, all the while struggling to crack her father’s code. The message, as she unravels it, reveals secrets costly enough to risk the mission and even her own life. Can Meg solve the puzzle, rescue the family, and save her father?

And yes, you can pre-order a copy. I’ll post links as soon as they are up!

Also, Book Bingo!

While I’m promoting stuff, consider joining the BOOK BINGO contest, going on now for the chance to win a FREE SKYPE VISIT next fall with one of fifteen amazing authors! The link for the rules is below and the game ends on May 30th so there’s still plenty of time to play.

Congrats to Carson! I thought I would have lots of kids interested in the Book Bingo, but honestly, the online school is not going as well as I thought. I think there is a little malaise in my students, and they are not as quick to jump on board with things. Have heard similar from other teachers in town and elsewhere. Such a fun contest though!

Congratulations to the winner! I love the cover, Mrs. Nielsen; it’s so pretty, and I can’t wait to read it.
(Now anyone reading this who hasn’t read The Warrior’s Curse yet, don’t continue)
I have a theory, and I was hoping, Mrs. Nielsen, that you could answer it but it’s okay if you can’t. (I should put here that it’s kind of far fetch.) Is Joth Tarquin Joth Kerwyn?

My favorite trilogy of yours is either The Traitor’s Game or the False Prince. I really hope that someday you do a sequel to the False Prince trilogy, where Roden finds love, Tobias and Amarinda find happiness and prosperity, and Jaron and Imogen have a child that is very mischievous. I am super excited to read Rescue. P.S. Words on Fire is AMAZING,
P.P.S I re-read Scourge for the 10th time because of the whole COVID 19 thing.

I hope it they are made into movies too!!! I wasn’t too in to reading before I read the your books, I finally found books that are perfect for me! Thank you so much. I also kind of style some of my writing after the way you write. You are such a captivating writer. I remember in 5th grade when you were coming to my school and I was going to see you and everything but then for some reason I ended up not going and I was really disappointed. I can’t wait for the next books!!

I love your books they are all simply amazing. I had a really fun time with this trivia cover reveal. Quick question, if you had to be stuck in quarantine with one of your characters who would it be?

Hi, I was wondering if you could give any super quick tips for writers on how to name characters? I love your books and you always have amazing character names that really fit the characters, which is something I struggle with when I’m writing.

Hi Jaylen, One trick you might try for original names is to start with an existing name and then change it one letter at a time, or add or subtract a letter. So for example: PARIS -> CARIS -> CARID – CARIDE> And just keep tweaking until you like the new word.

How did you get Sage’s name? It’s perfect for his character, and I always wonder how you got that name.

The word Sage also means “wise.” It’s a name that would have appealed to him as a way of sticking it to his dad, that even though he was young, he still had wisdom.

My daughter, Ava Claire (age 12), loves to spend a day in one of your novels! She has written stories of her own since she has had the ability to place two words together on paper. Thank you for inspiring my young writer.

That is the best of all possible news. Please tell her to continue writing and I hope to see her name on her own book one day!
