First Day of Christmas Jennifer Nielsen December 12, 2020

First Day of Christmas

On the first day of Christmas,

This author offered me

A title for book five series…

Many have asked.

Some have cleverly figured it out through your secret online sources (Goodreads).

A few are still waiting.

But be warned…

There are three ways to interpret this title.

Is it literal? (In THE RUNAWAY KING, he…well he runs away)
Or symbolic? (THE SHADOW THRONE was an allusion to outside powers attempting to take control of Carthya)
Or misleading? (In THE CAPTIVE KINGDOM, it might not be the kingdom you think)

Whichever it is, we know that there must be consequences for what happens at the end of THE CAPTIVE KINGDOM. And I can promise you this, our young king will feel those consequences dearly in…

THE SHATTERED CASTLE

Coming Fall 2021

Check in tomorrow for the second day of Christmas…

Hmm, I don’t think the title of book 5 is anywhere in Book 4, but who knows, maybe! And yes, Errol will make an appearance in Book 5. And thank you!

OH MY GOODNESS! What a wonderful surprise! I can’t wait for the 5th book! I love the cool title too!

I even love the way you title your books! Literal…Symbolic…Misleading…???…

Was the false prince literal or misleading? (I don’t want to spoil with my explanation of why I think it is either) 😉

I hope everything is fine in the Kingdom of Carthya even if the title says otherwise 🙂

I think Book 1’s title is all three: literal, misleading, and symbolic. And as to the well-being of Carthya, well…wait and see! 😉

It’s so mysterious… it could be literal, but I have a feeling it’s more figurative. Either that, or it’s a different castle that’s shattered. Maybe what’s shattered isn’t a castle but rather Jaron’s relationship with his advisors and his subjects?

That title certainly gets the mind moving. Sounds great. My family is enjoying reading three of your books right now (The Captive Kingdom, Wrath of the Storm and I am loving Rescue so far). The blog looks great, curious about the other days.

I’m sorry but I have to ask: WILL FINKS RAT BE IN THE SHATTERED CASTLE??????????
Because he keeps going back for something in book 4. Honestly out of all the amazing plot twists this is the one I was most focused on finding hints for throughout the book

Shattered Castle… Jaron’s in trouble. I can feel it.

I haven’t read through but two of the comments, so I’m not sure if someone already said this theory. I apologize if they have. But my theory is that The Shattered Castle is a parallel to the saying “Home is where the heart is.” It’s not a home without the people. For Sage, it isn’t a castle without the people. It might still be symbolic of the times that he has with his friends breaking, or in this context, “shattering.”

Another thing is that he might be under attack. What may have happened wad the castle did not literally shatter, but Sage’s heart did, and the hearts of those around. Something truly sinister could be waiting to strike, ready to shatter the hopes, dreams, and plans that the mains have made.

I don’t know though, I guess we have to find out!

why sage? not Jaron, he is Jaron in 3 books nearly four. Jennifer addresses Jaron as sage, but I don’t know why, that was only his disguised name right?

I address him as Sage to avoid spoilers for those who haven’t read the first book.

Aaahh, A TITLE! It’s literally giving me goosebumps–it sounds so ominous and heart-wrenching and simultaneously regal. My brain is thinking literally, symbolically, misleading(ly?) and all other possible ways to interpret a book title right now; I need to know what it meaans. *feels even more impatient about book 5 release* 😀

Also, I’m so glad you mentioned the inspiration for The Shadow Throne title; I’ve always wondered about the symbolism!
