I am almost finished with the fifth (and likely) final book of the series, and it’s going to be dedicated to one of YOU!
Why?
Because I owe the fans of this series so many thanks for your support.

Anyone of any age. You may enter as an individual or as a group.

How Does the Contest Work?
1. Complete your project, whatever it is, by July 15th at noon EST.
2. Email me the project, or the link to it (jen@jennielsen.com). When you hit “send,” that is permission for me to view your work privately, but it will not be shared publicly at this time.
3. I, and a special panel of judges, will narrow down the choices to our top five favorites.
4. If you are one of the finalists, I will contact you and ask you (or your parents) to sign a permission form allowing me to post your work publicly on my blog.
5. We will then allow the public to vote for their favorite.
6. The winner(s) will get their name(s) posted on the book’s dedication page.
7. All five finalists will win something. Prizes may include: Getting a character named after you, getting a free school or book club visit, receiving a signed early copy of the fourth or fifth book, a gift card to your local indie bookstore, etc.
The Fine Print
a. The contest is open to all individuals, groups, and ages anywhere in the world. Groups larger than five people may need to be listed in the dedication under a group name, rather than individually.
b. Multiple entries are allowed, in the same or different categories.
c. You will retain rights to your creation, although I may request permission to post some of it on my blog or other social media accounts, credited back to you.
d. First-round judging will be based on: Creativity, Quality of Work, and Enthusiasm. However, the judges will take into account that people of all ages and experience levels will be entering.
e. Once opened to public voting, anyone may vote for their favorite for their own reasons.
f. Late entries will not be accepted.

Really quickly, I have two questions 🙂
First, are we allowed to combine categories? For example, can we start with a video explaining why we’re a super fan and then show something we made (poem, song, art, etc.)?

Is there a word count limit for fanfiction?
No’e – just make it as long or short as the story requires.
I already have a character with the same name as me (sometimes), but I’m still going to enter because this is the best series in existence!!!

If we’re doing a video, is there a limit for how long? Also, when will the results be in?
No time limit – and the results will be in as soon after the deadline as I can organize them all!

The same person can enter with a group project, and then enter again alone.
Hi, this sounds really exciting! My sister and I love the series; I was wondering if a comic strip form would be allowed? Also, you mentioned that one of the prizes might be a school visit; what if we’re homeschooled or the schools don’t reopen?
Hi Lily, yes, a comic strip is allowed. For a school visit, we can always work things out, either for homeschool groups, or delaying until schools do open again.

Hey is there any requirements if we are writing a fanfiction? I’ve already written a couple and I know exactly which one I want to send in (after I make it better of course!)

You can do either, but you should consider which way you have a better chance of success. Give yourself the greatest odds you can.

I started reading your books after a suggestion made by my friend to read The False Prince. This suggestion I was found to be skeptical about b/c our differed reading materials. After a few days of debating to read it, I finally picked it up in my school library. From the beginning I loved it and was so excited when I found out that there not only was a second book, but that there was a third. I quickly went to the nearest book store got the rest of the trilogy. My friend who had introduced me to the series also got to read the second and third once borrowed from me. Just a day or two ago I got to read the fourth book: amazing! Thank you for the wonderful work you do. Big fan of your books A Night Divided, Mark of the Thief Series, and of course the Ascendance Series!!

I absolutely love your stories and your writing skills, especially the story of the Ascended Series. This series will always hold a special place in my heart. I use to hate reading because I really struggled with it when I was younger, but then I found the False Prince and I instantly fell in love. It was the first of many chapter books I would read and the first time I realized I wanted to be a creator just like you! You have inspired me more than you will ever know!
