RESISTANCE Quote 1 (and a giveaway)!

RESISTANCE, Quote #1

For the past three months, I’d worked as a courier for a resistance movement known as Akiva. My job was to break through that isolation, to warn the people, and to help them survive, if I could. But we were increasingly aware that time was running out. We’d seen people being lured onto the trains with promises of bread and jam, pacified into thinking they were being relocated to labor camps. Then they were crammed into cattle cars without water or space to move. And their destination was never to a labor camp.

They were headed for death camps, designed to kill hundreds or even thousands of people a day. I’d seen them. Been sickened by them. Had my heart shattered by them.

The Nazis called these camps their solution to the so-called “Jewish Problem.”

Yes, I very much intended to be their problem.

Chaya Lindner, a courier for the Akiva resistance movement, is probably the toughest character I’ve ever written, because she has to be. What other traits do you think a resistance fighter would need to have in order to face her enemies?

Leave your comments below! I’ll give away an ARC of RESISTANCE to a random entry. The contest closes at midnight EST on July 1. International entries are okay.

Or you can always pre-order your copy now! RESISTANCE will be released on August 28th.

I have spent the better part of the last 2 years learning how to teach the Holocaust to middle school students. I have traveled to Israel and will also study at USHMM this summer…..never have I found a text like Resistance that teaches the Holocaust exactly the way it should be taught! Can’t wait to bring this to my students and other teachers around the country! Well done, Ms. Nielsen! Thank you!

Now this will probably sound weird but, fear. Why? Because as has been stated in many a cheesy movie, you cannot be brave if you have no fear. Because being brave is being scared of something, but facing it anyway simply because you believe it is the right thing to do.

To be a resistance fighter, you have to be many things: clever, determined, brave. I also think there would have to be some level of love or at least compassion, too. Otherwise, what would be the motivation for fighting for people? Anger only gets you so far. Someone who truly wants to change things has to have a measure of empathy and a willingness to persevere.

There are many traits that a resistance fighter should have but I think without courage and unwavering faith, a fighter cannot overcome fear, which is a natural feeling experienced by humans in wars. Without courage in adversity, it is easy to falter and cower. Without steadfast faith, there will be no movement.

A resistance fighter would have to be able to cope with loss. In any warlike situation, lives will probably be lost. If the fighter doesn’t know how to deal with that, their fighting would likely be cut short.

A resistance fighter would have to be smart, swift, and stealthy. She would have to be able to cope with or get out of danger and to always be one step ahead. Courage is another weapon she would need in her arsenal. A resistance fighter would have to have a deep passion and drive for her cause, enough to give her life if needed.

Maybe, she needs to have really good skills that make her an important part of the resistance, other than intelligence and bravery, she should be able to escape from traps and stufff relying on her instincts and skills.

I am so looking forward to this book. My daughter and I have both read all of the books you have published. I would say that resilience is an important attribute of a resistance fighter.

A resistance fighter should have bravery, confidence, willingness to give as well as take a life, drive to get what they need done, intelligence, connections to people of both sides, fighter skills, knowledge of psychology, use of language, master of many skills, proficient acting, and control over there body at all times. But most importantly a resistance fighting character needs a good writer. Your writing is amazing and fit for the job. I’m sure this one will be just as great as two of my favorite series (both written by you), but good luck!

Street savvy and a smart tongue ;). Your books have been some of my top-favorites ever since I read The False Prince – and I can’t wait for this one to release! <3

After thinking for a couple of days, aside from tenacity, i think she needs to be joyful that even towards negative events she can still continue in fighting for the cause without feeling downcast, cautiousness to be able to not just act upon situations but to be careful as well especially that the “people” she is fighting to are not just some ordinary people and not just to be insightful but to have wisdom which is doing what you know is the right thing to do.

I know some kiddos that will be very excited about this book (as I am). Three traits she would need are optimism, perseverance and adaptability. Thanks for the chance to win!

Yay! I cannot wait to read this book!

I believe a resistance fighter needs to contain two specific traits: curiosity and courage. Curiosity giving Chaya the urge to find new information concerning the Nazi’s movements and courage that allows her to open the door to the unknown.

(Had a little trouble posting, sorry if this appears twice).

She needs to have courage and be strong to get through it and she needs to to be persistent. She also could use intelligence and optimism.

Is there any plans on making a movie of your book? My daughter saw your trailer for your book at school for a book fair
and thought it was a movie too.

There are currently no movie contracts for RESISTANCE – that could change at any time, but that is the most current information. Thanks for asking!

I know I’m a tad bit late, but this book was really good! I read it at my school because it was a recommendation from one of my teachers and I fell in love with it, kudos to you for writing this awesome book!
