This week, finally, RESISTANCE will be released! You can find it in your library, in your favorite bookstore, in online bookstores, and at your Scholastic Book Fair. I hope you will check it out!
The last quote is below, this on the eve of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, in which a few hundred Jewish civilians took on the Nazi army with homemade weapons, careful planning, and courage rarely seen elsewhere.
One evening, after three months of preparation, three months of wondering and planning and hoping for even one day more, a man I knew only as Chaim burst into our bunker, his eyes wide with fear and only two words on his lips: “They’re here.”
The Germans had come.
Just like that, the last of the sand ran out of the hourglass.
Chaim and the other lookouts on the rooftops reported that thousands of soldiers were gathering in Warsaw, setting up camp like we were the new front line of the war, and maybe we were. It suddenly made sense why the Germans waited this long—it took time to organize an army of this size, extensive planning to prepare a ghetto of seventy thousand people for total liquidation. No doubt those were their orders.
By six o’clock, they had the ghetto surrounded.
The Warsaw Ghetto Uprising was about to begin.
If you want to purchase your own copy of this book, links are below. I don’t have many public events over the next several months (though you can check my EVENTS page, just in case), but I’ll include the link to King’s English if you want a signed copy;

I can’t wait to read this!!! My library is getting a copy, but I’ve preordered it also😁
Thank you, Ellie!
I’m looking forward to getting my copy in, I’m sure it’ll be absolutely wonderful!
Thank you! Let me know what you think!
I have read RESISTANCE and it was amazing! Keep up the good work Mrs. Nielsen.
Thank you so much, Kyle – I’m glad you enjoyed it!
Hi Mrs. Nielsen! Congrats on the book launch. I think this is worth celebrated since you have worked hard on this book. This book would probably be the best historical fiction book along with A NIGHT DIVIDED. Also quick question, will you announce the book launch prizes giveaway winners?
I will notify the winners in person, thanks for asking (and for all the kind words!)
As I can’t get any books until my birthday or Christmas I actually tried to preorder it from my library yesterday and I had mixed feeling when I saw that 2 other people had already preordered Resistance as well! Happy because I’m just happy for you ms. Nielsen but also sad because I might have to wait a while to read it.
I hope you’ll get a chance to read it soon, Mary!
I just started reading it! I’m already in love with the characters! I love how this book isn’t SUPER sad and heavy like some other historical fictions I’ve read during this same time in history. You add hope into the book and it gives it a good balance of hope, happiness, and sadness. I’m loving it so far! 😊
Thank you so much, Katie. There is always a degree of sadness associated with a Holocaust-era story, but I’m glad you saw the hope in it – that was my intention and wish for readers!
Resistance is soooooo good I got it yesterday and I’ve already finished it! I couldn’t put it down. I love all of the characters and the story. It was very inspiring! Thank you for writing such amazing things!
Thank you so very much, Hannah – I’m thrilled that you enjoyed it!
Just out of my incesable curiousity I must ask when will everyone else find out what the super secret prize was? BTW Congrats to all the winners, and Resistance is on my (too long) To-Read list ;{P
The super secret prize will likely be revealed in about a month – I hope you’ll be excited about it!
Oooo, Thanks!
Congrats on your latest book release, Jennifer! I’m reading RESISTANCE right now and I’m really enjoying it! The cover art is so great; I’m going to create some nail art inspired by it soon! 🙂
Thank you – and I can’t wait to see it!
Congratulations! I can’t wait to buy and read Resistance!
Thank you, Judy.
I finally got RESISTANCE from my library, and I’m going to start reading it right away!
I hope you’ll love it, Jamie!
I got RESISTANCE for my birthday!! Now I can finish it without worrying about bringing it back to the library.;) It’s good so far!
I hope you’ll love it to the end, Jamie! (And happy birthday!)
I NEED to read it after reading A Night Divided!! I am saving!!!! 😍😍😍😍
Yay! Thank you, Sloan!
Hi! I went to barnes and noble last week and i saw a lot of kids looking at resistance. I am so happy for you Mrs.Nielsen!
Yay! And hopefully a few of them picked it up! Thanks for spotting the book in the wild, Cheyne!
Yep! And your are very welcome. Also, they did pick it up as I told some details about it! 🤗
Thank you, Cheyne!
I finally finished RESISTANCE. It was really good!! I’ve always been interested with WW2 and the Holocaust. Even though it was a horrible time. It’s inspiring to hear and read about real life heroes from that time. I’m sure you’ve heard of Elie Wiesel and Anne Frank. Also there’s this kid’s book called Jars of Hope. It’s about Irene Sandler, and I really like her story. She saved 2,500 Jewish children. If you haven’t already read about her, then I think you should.
Anyway, RESISTANCE is a really good book! Thank you for writing it. Chaya is a powerful character and even though my situation is nothing like hers, I still felt like I could relate to her. Even though Chaya and Esther are fictional, they still have the same spirit as the rebels who made a difference in the war. RESISTANCE is a great book, so thanks for it.:) Also, I like the part at the end when you talked about the real life couriers and other rebels. It’s great.
Thank you very much, Jamie. And yeah, Irene Sendler was Warsaw, working from outside the ghetto walls but doing so very heroically.
Hi Mrs.Nielsen! Quick question, when are you gonna update about your books?
Ah Cheyne – great idea! As soon as I can catch my breath on some other deadlines, I definitely will!
Ok Mrs.Nielsen. Take some time to relax. I hope you have a great time!
Thank you!
I LOVED it!!!! It was so sad(especially the end), but so great!! This book pulled my emotions in so many different directions. I went from laughing, to crying, to feeling heart throbbing suspense. I loved the story between Esther and Chaya! I’ve always been interested in the holocaust(I love Irena Sendler and Corrie Ten Boom’s stories), but I’ve never read anything from a Jew’s perspective. Thank you for writing such a great book!
Thank you very much, Ellie.
I have a question. Is the content in this book appropriate for fifth graders? Thanks for your help! I have fifth graders eager to read Resistance!
Thanks for finding me here, and I hope you’ll enjoy the read!
Jennifer, what inspired you to write resistance?
It was the discovery of the true story in a book titled ‘Justyna’s Narrative,” and realizing this was a story that had not been told to young readers today.
I LOVED your book i read it in 1 day i can really connect with your characters, your very talented
Thanks very much!
I like the book
I also enjoyed it Pam
