#ReadIndieForward
Read Indie Forward is a great program to help support our local bookstores. Here’s how it works: Buy a book as a gift for your family or a friend, and ask the person who receives it to then pay it forward by purchasing another book from their local indie and give it as a gift.
Readers can purchase books directly from their favorite indie bookstore, from Indiebound.org, or from Bookshop.org. Bookshop has a special page for #ReadIndieForward.
So I’m going to pay it forward to YOU! If you win, I will purchase any of my books (one of your choice) from The King’s English, my local indie, and it will come to you signed. But part of winning is you agree to then purchase any book from an indie bookstore near you and gift it to someone you know.
How To Enter
Simply tell me below which of my books you would want to win AND if you’re willing to buy a book from an indie as a gift for someone else. I’ll randomly choose one of the comments as a winner. The contest will close on May 21st.

I would love to receive The False Prince signed by you!! I would be willing to buy a book from an indie!
*I meant I would be willing to buy a book for someone else from an indie. I know a lot of people that would like to receive one. 😉
The Scourge, yes
Hi Ms. Nielsen:)
I am so excited about this opportunity and I am completely willing to buy a book from my local indie (Half Price Books) and I actually know exactly what book to buy and who to give it to. It would be amazing to get any of your books so it was really hard to choose but I think I decided to ask for “The Traitor’s Game” Because I loved it so much and I enjoyed the last one so much..
On another note I just wanted to ask if it would ever be possible for you to create any type of merch? Because I actually wanted to buy something that is related to the ascendance series for my birthday but then I found out you don’t really sell anything 🙁
I’ll look into creating some Ascendance march – great suggestion!
Thank You 🙂
I would love to get a signed copy of The false prince! And of course I would want to help these Indie sites! I want to help change the world when I am older and in any ways I can now. These sites are such a great idea by the way.
Gotta be The Captive Kingdom. We are a small town, but I will fo my best to find an indie bookseller!!!
I would want to get The False Prince and I am willing to buy a book for someone else
I would love The Captive Kingdom. And yes I would buy a book from my Indie as a gift. I’ve already started buying large print books there for my mom who lives an independent living facility and loves to read, but can’t get books from the library now.
Ooh, this is exciting! Thank you for doing this, Ms. Nielsen! I’m sure it will make a reader very happy and excited. 😊
All book stores in my area are closed due to COVID-19, but I’d definitely be willing to buy a book at a local bookstore as soon as it’s open and give it to a friend! I’d love The Captive Kingdom, if that book counts. 🙂
If The Captive Kingdom is an option I would love that! And yes, I’m willing to pass on the favor.
Gah, I think I’d definitely like Captive Kingdom (if that’s an option)… I’m so excited to read it (and if it’s not an option, perhaps a hard copy of The Runaway King… am looking to replace my beat up paperbacks lol)! And yes, I’m willing to buy a book from a local Indie store ☺️
Hello! I would definitely buy a book for someone else from my local indie. I would love to get Warrior’s Curse signed by you!
I would love to buy a book as a gift, I think this is a great idea. If I do win I would like to receive the False Prince book.
I would absolutely buy a book from an indie bookstore as a gift for someone! I was already thinking of doing that for my husband. Thank you so much for this opportunity! If I win, I would LOVE The False Prince! The Ascendance Trilogy is one of my all time favorites; I’m ecstatic that you are writing another addition to this series!Thank you so much!! 🙂
(Will this be the start of a new trilogy???)
Omg I love your books so much! I will also be participating in the bingo! What was the first book you ever wrote? (Not published)
That was 6th grade, but I never finished it, about a girl with this crazy imagination, and everything she imagines begins to really happen.
I would love the False Prince. I would buy the book from 2nd&Charles. I would give it to one of my friends because we share a mutual love for your books.
Hi! I’d love a copy of the Captive Kingdom, please! And I know of a local bookstore that’s an affiliate of Bookshop; they have a bunch of books my sisters want for their birthday, so I would buy books from them.
If it is possible, I would love a copy of The Captive Kingdom. I would definitely be willing to buy a book for a friend from a local bookstore as well!
I would love to get a signed copy of the Captive Kingdom! I would be willing to buy a book for one of my friends!
I would like to receive the false prince. I would buy a book.
I would also love a copy of The Captive Kingdom if it is available. I would be willing to buy a book from a local bookstore for a friend as well!
Hello! I’d like to win a copy of the captive kingdom, if it’s possible, but if not I’d like A Night Divided. It’s my favorite of your historical works! I will totally be willing to buy from an indie bookstore!
Also, I want to echo what another reader said: it would be amazing to have some really nice acsendance merch!
Hello, I’d love to win a copy of Captive Kingdom, if possible. If it’s not, I would love a paperback copy of Shadow Throne. I would absolutely be willing to buy from an Indie store for gifts!
Yes, I would gladly buy a book from my local bookstore for a friend or family member. If it is available, I would love The Captive Kingdom.
Hi Jennifer, I just had a question about The False Prince. The second time I read it I realized Conner said that the day the three boys arrived at Farthenwood it was Jaron’s birthday. *MAJOR BOOK 1 SPOIILER COMING* So was Sage/Jaron stealing a roast so that he could have a birthday dinner? And he was bought by Conner and saw Latamer die all on the day before his birthday!!! And HOW EVIL CAN YOU BE (in a good author way LOL) TO LET JARON FIND OUT HIS PARENTS ARE DEAD ON HIS BIRTHDAY??? Like I feel BAD for him! But I just want to know how much of that did you plan?
I am so excited to see what is going to happen in The Captive Kingdom!
Hi Alana – I think you mean the quote where Conner says that Jaron would be fourteen today. He would be fourteen, but not turning fourteen that day. The prince is only a few weeks from his 15th birthday at this point. Does that help?
I don’t think we have a Indie bookstore. Is Barns and Noble participating? The only bookstore in town is Barns and Noble, as far as I know.
Hi Mrs. Nielsen! I love the idea and I’d love to also pay it forward by helping out a local indie. I’m really looking forward to The Captive Kingdom’s release, but if I can’t get a preorder or ARC of it, I think I’ll go for Words on Fire (I love historical fiction!). Thanks again for the awesome initiative 🙂

Hello , I’d love to win a copy of A Night Divided . I already have a copy , but it unfortunately was left near the backyard door when I was reading it and we have dogs … anyway . It was the first book of yours I read and I fell in love with it . I have read it 7 times . I kid you not . I love going to indie bookstores , so if it meant getting to buy a book for a friend , Of course I would !

Hi! I’ve been wondering for awhile; do you have an email list that I can sign up for?
No, I need to get one though, big time!
Hi, not sure why but your next post about the Indie book winner is not working, I can see the preview on your main blog page but when I click on it it says error page not found. Just wanted to let you know about that and I wasn’t sure where else to tell you.
I’ll try to fix it, Lye – thank you!
Traitor’s Game has my heart and would definitely be the one I got signed! I have read the series twice over the last few months as a wonderful escape from the craziness that is happening around the world. I would happily purchase books at Indie stores to give away. As a teacher, I buy books all the time and try my very best to exclusively purchase from small business and stand alone bookstores. What a great way to inspire readers!
I just realized that my local university bookstore supports indie. Would have been really helpful to know a month ago. But I’ll probably give my friend a book (I know exactly what book) just for fun.
Hi!!! I’m so excited for book 4 and 5 of the Ascendance Series! I absolutely LOVE this series, in fact it’s my favorite book series! You were my Author in April in middle school and I remember having lunch with you and a writing class! I even got the Ascendance trilogy signed! I definitely would’ve entered the competition for book 5’s dedication to a fan but I just found out about it and the deadline is already passed :/ either way i’m really excited to re-read and read the full series and I can’t wait for the new books! <3 Super lucky to have found such an amazing series and to have been able to meet you! No matter how many times I read the Ascendance series I always find myself turning the page just for the adventure, sass, and humor that Jaron has 😀
