Coming War

The Shadow Throne - Front Cover

My thanks to Christopher Stengel for the cover design and Ken Choi for the cover art.

  1. Oh I am dying right now. This is fantastic and I can’t wait to read this closing chapter to the Ascendance Trilogy.

When will the cover be released? Will we get to read more from this world, even just with spin-offs?

I thank you, Miss Jen, but please reveal the release date and synopsis. I am looking forward to read this installment.

    • Thanks John! The synopsis is coming soon. And a spin-off…that’s a pretty cool idea actually!

      • OMG, a spinoff.

I am so honored that some Facebook pages used the pictures of the three covers that I edited and combined as one earlier!

        Thanks a lot.

        March 1, 2014 here I come.

        • Thank you for putting them together, John!

          • when is the book coming out

      • I apologize for repeatedly asking the release date earlier.

I didn’t see it because my eyes were immediately drawn tot eh cover.

It’s so beautiful. It even exceeds the previous two cover.

      • Jennifer,
Just a little recommendation, I think hailee steinfeld would be a perfect imogen. She is 16 and looks just how I imagined her to look

        • Thanks – that’s a name I had in mind too for Imogen – Hailee defnitely has the right look!

          • But the real question is, does Imogen end up with Jaron in the end…??? I know I’m not the only one who’s freaking out about this. Hints???

          • You’re totally right, Grace – you aren’t the only one freaking out about this. πŸ˜‰

            February 25, 2014. War is coming…

        • Actually, I pictured Imogen to look a lot more humbler. But I’ll be happy with anyone as long as they have the right character! (:

          • I just started reading the series. Can’t wait for the third book! Both books had me on the edge of my seat!!! I’m really happy about Roden and Jaron in the end of the second book. ^-^

          • Thank you, Sarah!

      • I would love a spin-off!! Aaaah!!

      • I am a really big fan of this series! I’ve read Book #1 and Book #2 and I CANNOT wait for Book #3! You are an amazing author that knows how to keep the readers in suspense and how to keep them interested throughout the entire novel. I, a 6th grader, are a very big fan of your work. (It would be AMAZING if you replied)

        • Thank you, Katie! I’m glad you’re enjoying the series. And yes, I am honored to reply to your post!

          • Oh my gosh you actually replied!!!! You know what? You are my new FAVORITE author!! You should make the series into a movie series!! Glad to know you love your fans back as much as we love you. Thanks for being my inspiration–Katie☺

          • Thanks Katie. I do love my fans. And yes, I hope it will be adapted for a movie series – Paramount has hired a screenwriter for the script, so keep your fingers crossed!

          • Do you have any other book series? These books are AMAZING

          • Is there any chace that there will be a forth book even though there is only supposed to be three

          • Anything is possible. But for now, this is all that’s planned.

          • By any chance would there be a fourth book?<False Prince series<
            Your books are amazing!!

          • Thank you, Mary. I have not contracted for a fourth book in the series, but I know what I’d write if I did. We never know what the future will bring, eh?

        • Jaron, the reason I chose that name for my hero is because I once knew a boy with that name. He was such an awesome kid I always thought if we had royalty in this country, he would be a prince. So when it came time to name my prince, I knew he had to be named Jaron. I’ll bet you are just as awesome! Good luck on your presentation!

      • Please make a movie
        I beg you
        I love these books

        • Ronan, the decision to make a movie isn’t mine, but I’d love to see it happen too! And yes, The Shadow Throne is coming soon…

        • Yes!! Must be a movie. Please reply you are my new favorite author

        • I don’t know if this would be a movie type thing. But if you made one i would definitely come see it. Loved the books!!!

I would be so happy and would go and see it please.
Sage is Soo un-predicte able and in the second book it was Soo good…. The pirates, fink,Gregor it was outstanding…. I prefer Imogen than the princess… Well done on making the best trilogy and I loved the hunger games was good but you thrashed that.

        • I can’t wait to come, so extra thanks for reading! And your name rocks!

      • Miss. Jennifer, I love the trilogy so much! I am reading the last book right now! I want to just say that making more then just a Trilogy would be the BEST. I love the characters and the mind-blowing things that just make the story come to live. Please respond to if you might continue it. I would scream and shout if that turns it into a yes!

        • Thanks for the kind words, JonFrancis. Right now I’m working on my next series, but who knows? Maybe one day Jaron will start knocking on my imagination, and demanding my attention. He has a way of doing that when he’s ready for more trouble!

        • I can’t wait I’m about to die yes I know it’s late but the false prince and the runaway king was amazing I really hope imogen doesn’t die. I’m so EXCITED

          • Please tell me that neither of the most important people die and neither does anyone else

          • πŸ˜‰ Just keep reading to the end…

          • Thanks, Emma – I hope you’ll like how the third book ends!

      • i love your books there should be a movie on it but as usual the book is better than the movie

      • Jennifer, does Sage ( Jaron ) die? I hope not because I really want Imogen and Jaron to become a thing. Do they end up getting together in the lady book???

      • I LOVE the false prince it is one of the best books I have ever read! I never expected him to be the real prince! I can’t wait to read the runaway king!!

        • Thank you, Preston! I hope you’ll like The Runaway King just as much as the first book.

    • Hey !! cant wait for your next book! I finished the first two in less then a week! Looking forward to the third! I think that parts where someone ends up unconscious are always the best! Also I LOVE LOVE LOVE how you put so much suspense in it! From: one of your young readers, Candace πŸ™‚

      • Thank you, Candace! I’m glad you’re enjoying the books. More unconsciousness to come… πŸ˜‰

          • Cool – that was easy!

          • I wish micheal scott would respond like you do! πŸ™‚

          • Hmm, if I ever get the chance to meet him, I’ll tell him so. πŸ˜‰

    • when do you think the book is coming out for sure?
and i love the book its such a good book i am in love with it!!! i am so excited. please tell me when the book is coming out.

      • The Shadow Throne will be released on February 25, 2014. War is coming…

    • Oh my gosh! I love the series so much!!!!!!! I saved money and bought the first book because I heard so much about it. It was amazing! My whole family read it because I nagged them so much. Your my favorite author! When I checked out the second book at the library today, my dad and i argued on who would get to read it first! I won. :). I finished the book in two hours, and I can’t wait for the third book!!!!!! Im going to save up my money to buy the second book, so I can read it when I want. Best book ever!!! I’m a huge fan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      • Thank you! I’m honored you would spend your hard earned money on these books, and I’m glad that between you and your dad – you won! Happy reading!

  2. OH. MY. GOD! Both the cover and the title are totally epic! >_< I love love love it! Can't wait to get my hands on this. Excuse me while I'm having a fangirl moment…

  3. Wow, Jen! What an amazing cover. And it’s so got me curious to know what’s going to happen next. A big congrats to you!

    • Thanks Natalie! And what’s happening next..lots and lots more trouble, of course! πŸ˜‰

      • I feel bad by saying this, but when you say ” lots and lot-shirts of trouble” I form a little grin… and get excited. Is that wrong? πŸ˜›

      • Can you make new people in book three

        • There will be some more new characters in book 3. I hope you’ll like them!

          • What r the names of the new people

          • You’ll have to wait and read it!

  4. It looks so awesome!!!!! Can’t wait until it comes out. I swear I’m going to be the first in line here in Maryland!!!! πŸ˜€

  5. My students are elated about the new book! We have read The False Prince and The Runaway King this year. Your novels have been engaging and thought provoking for my students. It’s truly helped me build a community of readers. Keep up the great work!

    • Thank you Jimmy! Tell them all hello for me when you see them next!

  6. Wow. This is amazing! Woke up early today just to see this. Love it, although that date is so FAR away!!!

    • Well look at it this way. Summer shouldn’t count since it’s too busy and fun. And the holiday season in December shouldn’t count either for the same reason. Or weekends. So really, if you think about it, there’s only about three months of actual waiting time!

      • Yes!! That is definitely a better way to think of it….

      • Wow… that just changed my prospective on a lot of things

  7. The three colors are “primary colors”. I also thought about red as the cover color for book 3 :). Nice cover and nice title. But why is the image a key Miss Jen? haha I think I must wait for book 3 but I haven’t read book 2 haha.. Its expensive here in my country but I save money to buy one. πŸ™‚

    • Thank you Lemuel – I know they’re expensive, which makes your reading all the more valuable to me. The key is a symbol.

      • Is there going to be one of the other types of cover as well because I have to say that I like those a bit more?
Love the books though and can’t wait to find out what happens next!

        • Probably yes on the other covers, though I haven’t seen any yet. Thanks for reading, Ben!

    • *our country haha πŸ™‚ wrong grammar

  8. My kids and I just went, “Oh, epic win!” Can.not.wait! I’m as excited about this series as my kids. Thank you so much for writing something that we can all share. πŸ™‚

  9. Love the series and what a cover. I was hoping for red or purple and now the key and a possible spin off.. Very cool.

  10. That’s amazing!! Can’t wait to get my copy πŸ™‚

  11. The red is so striking! It’ll look fab on my shelf next to the others. Congrats on another beautiful cover, Jennifer! Can’t wait to read this!

  12. A stunning cover, and it will look awesome standing next to the others!

    • Thanks Ronalie – that’s one of my favorite things about the covers too, is how good they look together.

  13. I didnt want to finish The Runaway King book because I didnt want it to be over. But I eventually finished it (study hall got to me). And now I’m dying to read The Shadow Throne!!!!!! Yay!!! I’m soooo excited!!

  14. Woo-Hoo! I guessed the color, but not the object. Can’t wait!

  15. Brilliant! I can’t wait! I promised to start reading The False Prince this summer with my own kids. (Which means I get to read them again…) πŸ™‚

  16. First of all I love your books! You are tied (with Alyson Noel) for my favorite author. I love your skill of great description it really brings the characters to life! I am so thrilled that the third book is coming out next year! When I read the first book I couldn’t get it out of my mind! I finally convinced my sister to read your books (she does not like to read) and she really loved your books! I want the third book so bad! The Shadow Throne will be AMAZING! P.S. My best friend and I are in love with Sage if he was real I would want to marry him!

    • Thank you Amelia, for reading and recommending the book. I hope you’ll enjoy The Shadow Throne too! And for the record, Sage would be very happy to hear you’re crushing on him! πŸ˜‰

  17. Thank you so much Mrs. Nielsen for creating a riveting and beautiful world for me to explore:)

  18. what will book 3 be about

  19. You rock!!! I loved your book.

I could not stop reading after it came out

  20. Hi Jen,

My 4th grade class was so excited to find this on your website today! We read the False Prince as well as the Runaway King and they have been bugging me ever since for the title and release date of the third book! We love the tag line on each of the books, as well as the broken items. We have been trying to foreshadow what the broken key might mean. As a teacher, I would like to thank you for writing a book that my entire class has been able to enjoy together. They voted it their favorite book of the school year! πŸ™‚

A class of your biggest fans,
    Mrs. Sedenka’s 4th Graders

    • I’m so glad they got to have a peek at it and tell them thank you for their vote – that’s awesome to hear! Have a wonderful summer!

  21. I am obsesed with you

  22. My students and I are SO pumped to see title & cover reveal together today. It’s a wonderful way to end our school year…and March 1st feels like an eternity away! We can’t wait to see what happens to Prince Jaron in the final installment!

    • Thanks Susan! And as for what happens to the King….lots and lots of trouble, of course! Have a wonderful summer!

  23. OMHJ!(Oh My Holy Jaron)The cover looks awesome. Why do I have to live in England? The UK covers are pathetic compared to these.
Fight for the future…Die for the throne that just killed me inside.
I think my mum might hate you a little bit because instead of studying for my ever moving closer GCSEs i’m surfing the internet for any hint on whats going to happen whoops!
Can’t wait to see how Jaron resolves it all.

P.S Congrats on creating the most awesome love triangle of all time I have a favorite(Amarinda shes awesome)but I don’t hate Imogen I actually really like her.

    • Thanks Skye – I haven’t seen the UK cover yet but I actually really love those too. Apologize to your mum for me – but tell her at least you’re reading and not out partying, right? So keep your fingers crossed that Jaron *can* resolve so much trouble. And we’ll see which of the two girls will accept him by the end – if any!

      • I wish Imogen would end up with Jaron!!! And since Gelyn betrayed Carthya, isn’t there no need for the betrothal?

        • For good or bad, Imogen’s fate will be decided in Book 3. And yes, Gelyn did betray Carthya, but Amarinda is not from there. She’s from Bymar, which is next to Gelyn. She and Jaron are still betrothed. Good thinking though!

  24. My first guess about the cover color was right…but I got the symbol wrong ha ha. Looks good! I’m excited!

  25. Aaaaahh!! I have been counting down to this for what seems like forever!!! When does it come out? I’m dying here!!!

  26. I would love to know the total number of pages this book is going to have ? And oh umm btw awesome cover and title thumbs up πŸ™‚

    • Wrangler, it’s maybe about 12 pages. Had to cram that whole war story in pretty fast. πŸ˜‰

Just kidding – this book will be about the same as the others. Thanks!

  27. Wewhoooooo!!!!!!!! can’t wait Missy!

  28. I am so excited. I have read and used Books 1 and 2 with my Korean students online as readers when I tutor them. They have loved them. I cannot wait for Book 3.

    June – also on

    • That’s very cool – I love that they can help in learning the language! Hopefully one day soon these will be translated into Korean too!

  29. Is the 3rd book the end or will you write more books on this series as a continuation? I really don’t want the series to end.

    • Thanks Nick – for now this is all that is planned for this series but no worries, the next one will be a fun read too!

  30. OMG OMG OMG OMG!!!!! That’s what I was thinking Red with Gold letters!!!!!!

    • Yes, your guess was pretty close!

      • What do you mean?

        • Not sure what question you’re asking, Dakota. Can you ask again?

          • Ehh Never mind. πŸ˜€

  31. This looks epic! I just sent a like to the book club I’m in (AFFL) and I won’t be surprised I they all go nuts!

  32. Awesome cover. I never would have guessed the Key. I was thinking something broken like the first 2 but maybe a throne. Got the color though…can’t wait to read!!!!!!!!!

    • Thanks Brent. They tried a broken throne and it just didn’t look right. I’m very pleased with how the key turned out.

  33. I can wait for it to come out. So excited!!!!

  34. OMG!The cover is red just I predicted. No wonder you wanted people to guess the cover or symbol. Nobody would’ve guessed a broken key. I can’t wait to read the next book. I hope Imogen is safe. I cried when Imogen ended her relationship with Jaron. Oh I hope that she is able to come back to Jaron safely.

    • Cecelia –

I think one person mentioned a key, but as part of a larger list so it might not count. πŸ˜‰ No guarantees about Imogen’s safety, or that she’s coming back. But I thought that was a sad scene too.

      • Shes not coming back????!!!!????!!!!!!???!!!??!??

  35. I knew it was going to be Red!! Love the cover The Shadow Throne .. So ominous the Key was a bit of a suprise when I saw the word Throne but I think it will make a lot of sense it could be a key involving Imodgen everyone seems to know about those two… Or it could be a the key to his royalty either way it will fit Ha fit because it’s a key! (: Wasn’t planning that one that background looks very nice love the shade of the Red.

P.S Poor Sage / )Everything of his seems to break crowns , Daggers , keys… Good thing he’s so smart…. And cute

    • Thank you! And yeah, things do have a way of breaking around Sage – but that suits his personality, I guess.

      • absoutly I love Sage’s personality ! His Charecter is so solid and everyone really has their own voice(: Sage is one of my favorite male characters for books He has some good comebacks especially to Connor .And Connor was such a Villain yet it seemed very realistic not just like a guy with a cape evil laughing but A real villain who has a motive . Oh and the Imagery … I have to repeat Imagery to other people when I read it.. And the Boys they certainly had character buildup and changed their relationships with jaron. Sorry I get very talkive with books And you already know all of this because you wrote the series(:
P.s I think it’s really awesome you Take the time to reply to comments it really makes my day.

        • I love writing Sage too – he often surprised me with the things he says or even the things he might do. And Conner was a blast too – such a horrible person, but for some good reasons. Writing someone in that gray area is really fun.

  36. I walked into the classroom today and the only thought in my head (at 8:30 in the morning) was, “When can I get my hands on a computer? I NEED to check the blog RIGHT NOW!”
At nine o clock, we got to use the computers to do a book list of books we wanted to read (The Shadow Throne is on there). So of course, instead of doing the project, I sneaked on to this website very fast and stared at the cover, for like, five minutes, amazed that the cover came out so good.
Finally, I couldn’t hold my tongue any longer so I ran to the teacher and told her about this website. She showed it on the board.
So of course, I spent the second half of writing helping people get on the site.
I can’t believe it how cool the cover was! So I was right about it being red and starting with “the”.
I have been typing this for 22 minutes now. Mostly because I deleted the first post.
If it is coming out on March First, it’s coming out in 261 days, 1 hour, 4 minutes, and forty seconds as of 17:25:22 6/13/13. I like doing things down to the second.
I can’t wait until it is out! I will definitely pre-order it on amazon.
PS. thank you for posting the picture of all 3 books together. I love the cover! What is the first sentence? And please tell me: does Jaron die? I don’t like it when my favorite characters die! πŸ™‚

    • Wow your so exact. It must have taken you a long time to do that.

    • Tori – well just wow. It sounds like you had quite a day. I actually have a countdown to release on my computer too, just not down to the second! I can’t reveal the first sentence yet (but it’s a good one!), and on Jaron…does he die? Hmm…. well, it’s going to be a very tough war…

      • What????? You mean that you’re not telling??? πŸ™‚
I wanted to know the first sentence because I like to memorize first and last sentences for some reason. And you’re not telling??? But I want to know!!!
Oh yeah, I forgot. you’re an author. You can put us in suspense like that. πŸ™‚

        • Well I can’t tell the sentence exactly, but I can give you a few hints: there are words in it, many of which contain vowels. It also is a sentence that gets us started with the plot. πŸ˜‰

Wish I could say more. It is a pretty good sentence though, worth memorizing eventually. Thanks Tori!

  37. Oh my lord! i can’t wait until it comes out!! Neither can my sister, mom or friends. They’re all reading your books now!

  38. I finally have the courage to write on your block, Mrs. Nielsen! I’m so exited about the title and the cover; I just had to write to all my friends an email, adding the link of this block. I hope that they will spread the word around about The Ascendance Trilogy, so that more people will know about it and read it, and not go, “What’s The Ascendance Trilogy/The False Prince/The Runaway King/ The Shadow Throne?”. Ha-ha. πŸ˜‰

I love the title. I have so many predictions about what it means, because while ‘The False Prince’ gave us a little clue about Conner’s cruel plan, and, ‘The Runaway King’ gave us an idea of Jaron fleeing away from the country, away from the danger (which doesn’t really suits his personality, but I just had a very wild guess). I think ‘The Shadow Throne would mean either (Just my guesses)
    A) Jaron will have help from some unknown country,
or B) Someone (I have in mind who, but I’m not gonna voice who I have) from Jaron’s friends is a secret spy or another ruler from some other (magical) country and they will help him, but first, of course, he will get mad at them for hiding the secret. πŸ™‚

As for the symbol, it could mean a key to the end of the war or the key to the Carthya’s treasures. Or, my wild, wild wild, guess, a key to a jail cell, where Imogen is kept as a prisoner!

Anyway, I’m extremely excited about the third book of my most favorite series, so Thank You Mrs. Nielsen, for giving us this amazing, in a new far, far away land, an adventurous story, in which we enjoy following our favorite characters steps, view their choices in dangerous situations, and laugh and cry with them. (I actually cried and laughed at the same time, when I learned of Sage’s history and of what happened to his family in the first Book.)

    One Of Your Awesome Fans,

PS. If you don’t mind me asking, How did you come up with the names of the characters and the villages and the countries and the towns? They’re so beautiful, and I think none of them are real, like the countries and the villages and the towns. The character have some real names, some don’t, I think.
    Thank you.

    • Thanks Irina, I’m so glad you wrote me! Thanks for spreading the word – that is a huge compliment and I appreciate it very much.

Those are great guesses – not too much longer now and you can know if any of them are correct.

To your question, most of the people names I came up with were the same as how parents choose names for their babies – go through baby name books and look for something that feels right. Place names I just made up out of my head. I tried to vary the letters they started with and the number of syllables, just to make it easier to remember.

There are a couple of names with meanings. I once knew a kid named Jaron who was completely awesome, and I used to think if our country had royalty, that this kid would be a prince. Sage is the kind of name I figure Jaron would choose when on his own. It’s earthy sounding, a little less cultured sounding, and definitely not a name one would associate with royalty. Conner is so named because he is a con-man. Fink is because that’s what he did.

      • Thank you for your reply. My friends loved the books and now we message each other about it all the time, guessing what will happen in Book 3. πŸ˜‰

  39. OMG! I was counting down the days, hours, and seconds for you to announce the book cover! I feel like this is a great name for it. Did you have trouble deciding the name? I know I would! I can’t wait for it to come out!

    • Thanks for the question. This was actually the easiest of all the books to name. Once I stumbled upon it, I knew it was right and thankfully, my editor agreed!

      • Hey it’s anonymous! I totally just freaked out when I saw you commented back! I honestly don’t know why I didn’t put my real name…. Anyways I just wanted to say (sorry for wasting your time) and it’s my dream to become an author. You are one of my #1 inspirations! Well I should let you get started on that future amazing book!

        • Hey Skylar – that’s awesome you want to be an author! Keep up your writing!

  40. Gorgeous cover and so fitting with the other two. Congratulations, Jennifer!

  41. I.

  42. Oh my gosh, I love, love, love, LOVE the cover! And the title! And the broken key! And the color! And, and, and – everything about it! I cannot WAIT for March 1st! So far away! I just know it’s going to be a wonderful story! πŸ™‚

  43. Holy wow, that is a gorgeous cover and an awesome title. I’m immediately reminded of the practice in the UK (and possibly other countries with a parliamentary government) of having a “shadow ministry,” with members of the opposition party holding positions correlating to regular ministry slots.

Sadly, I haven’t finished the second book yet, so I can’t make any speculations on the plot of this book. I definitely can’t wait to read it though!

    • Thanks Nancy – interesting speculation indeed! I hope you enjoy book 2 through to the end!

  44. OH GREAT GOODNESS GOLLY!!!! I knew it! Jennifer you saw my other comment, where I said it could be red. Then I listed some objects, and I believe I said key…. THIS COVER AND TITLE IS AMAZING! Away, and is the last of dearly loved Jaron ;c now I wanna cry, but dance for book.

    • Cayla, yes you were the only one who mentioned a key, and you did get the red – congratulations! And I think it’ll be okay to cry as you dance. Why not?

      • πŸ˜‰ I’m gonna miss Jaron and his kingdom… I’m sure you can help me cope with that new series of yours (right?). I’m sure you will make the main character just as loveable.

        • I’ll miss Jaron too, but there’s a great new cast to get to know. You’ll love `em!

  45. This series helped ease the wait for “The House of Hades” by Rick Riordan. But, after the second book, it has added to my problems by adding one more book to wait for.

    • Thanks Mithun! Sorry for piling on more to wait for!

    • Oh you’ve read that too? I am waiting for that.
Why can’t books be published right away?

      • I haven’t read it yet, but I want to. Mostly books aren’t published right away because authors are super mean. Or something like that. πŸ˜‰

      • I know, right?! Its like, write the books ahead of time and publish them all in a short period of time! Wouldn’t that make everyone’s life a lot simpler?

        • That’s a good suggestion. Though I suspect since you read faster than I can write, eventually it’d be hard to stay ahead of you anyway!

      • cAN’T WAIT TO READ HOUSE OF HADES LOVE PERCYJackson and jason grace and everyone else

  46. I can’t wait! I can’t stop thinking about your awesome books! There are so many possibilities for the third! I keep re-reading my favorite parts of both books to try and distract myself from how far away the third book is, but I can’t think about much else these days! Do you know an approximate date when the summary and maybe even a sneak peak will be available? I’ll hold my breath until then.
    Your bigges fan,

    • Thank you, Bailey! I don’t yet know when the summary will be released, but it’s probably soon. But don’t hold your breath – that can be dangerous. πŸ˜‰

  47. ARRRGGGG! I forgot the “T” in biggest! I guess I’m your “bigges” fan.:)

  48. I agree with Amelia’s comment….. I’m totally in love with Sage/Jaron. πŸ™‚

  49. I meant Biggest! πŸ™‚

I haven’t been able to think of anything but the outcome of this awesome trilogy since I finished the second book! It haunts my dreams…. Thank you so much for replying to my other comment about what Jaron looks like. I have been drawing like crazy trying to find the best look for Jaron, but no luck yet. By the way, I love the names of your characters! Sage is so cute and Jaron sounds very Kingly. By the way, how do you pronounce Imogen? I’ve heard it pronounced different ways and I’m not sure which is right. Does it sound like “ImoJEAN” or “ImoJEN”? Sorry, I really like to know small, insignificant details like that! Do you know when a summary or a sneak peak will be available? I won’t breathe until then!
    Your “bigges” fan,

    • I’m going to leave you alone now. You should spend more time writing your book than replying to my annoying comments. πŸ™‚ Write away!

    • Good luck on the art, Bailey – I’d love to see it if you ever get to it.

Imogen’s name is ImoJEN in pronunciation, though you can pronounce it otherwise if you want!

      • Thanks! By the way, I was just peeling potatoes and I wondered, “Does potato skin really feel good?” (Imogen used potato skin to make Jaron’s burn feel better.) Turns out, it does! My arm feels really weird though. πŸ™‚

        • Raw potato does help with burns. I got a bad burn once as a teenager and my great grandma came over with some raw potato to set on it. At first I thought it was silly and embarrassing, then after a couple of minutes I was like, hey the burn doesn’t hurt as much. The potato pulled the heat out. That experience is why that scene is in there when Jaron is burned.

          • Wow! That’s so cool!

          • Thanks Bailey!

  50. Jaron

    Jaron, the prince.
    Orphan, Sage is his name.
    They are the same.
    Jaron, killed by pirates–not
Sage could keep his belongings in a small pot.
Sage, the orphan, Jaron, the prince.

    They are the same.

This is a poem I wrote.
It took forever to write, even though it’s only 7 lines long!

    From, Tori
    P.S. I agree with Amelia and Bailey’s comment. πŸ™‚

    • Fantastic writing, Tori! Thanks for sharing it with me. Keep it up!

  51. I have a question. What is the average age of kids who have read The False Prince and The Runaway King?

Here is another question: Am I driving you crazy by posting so much? Because I should leave you alone so The Shadow Throne will be done quicker.
    From, Tori

    • Tori, you’re welcome to post here.

I don’t actually know an average age of kids who have read the books. The youngest I’ve heard is about 7 and the oldest is about 82. And there have been readers everywhere in between. Crazy stuff, right?

    • One middle school reading specialist teacher in my school district read The False Prince aloud to two of her 7th grade (I believe) classes. That’s how I got hooked on it. (Whenever I subbed for her I had to read it for 10 mins.) The 6th graders were not read to. I don’t recall her having any 8th graders.

      • Awesome! I always appreciate the teachers who share this series with their students.

  52. Since I’m not really a facebook person, I kept checking your website for the book 3 cover and title announcement. So, then it dawned on me to go to facebook! I’m sure there’s a really good reason for book 3 not being on your website yet under the Ascendance Trilogy. I’m really excited about the ending — and disappointed I have to wait almost a year to read it. I guess I’ll start re-reading books 1 & 2 in February. I think I may read your Infinity Ring series while I wait!!

    • Thanks for all the checking, Shirley! There is a reason it hasn’t been added to my website yet – haven’t had the time yet. And yes, please do check out Infinity Ring while you wait. The other authors have created wonderful books and I can’t wait to add mine to what they’ve already built!

  53. So, I’ve been reading this blog for about a month, and this is finally my first comment. I think it’s really cool how you take the time and reply to most of the comments here. (It’s like, “Holy! The author of my favorite book series replied to me!”)
Anyway, much like everyone else, I’m really, really looking forward for this book to come out. The cover design looks amazing and I’m sure the story itself will be amazing too!
And is there any recent news about the possibility of The False Prince movie? Like, how’s the screenplay or something?
So um, now, thanks for writing my favorite trilogy. πŸ™‚

    • Thanks for posting, Ally. No news yet about the movie – gah! – but hopefully soon. I just figure the wait means the screenwriter is still perfecting his script, and that’s a good thing. And you’re welcome! πŸ˜‰

  54. So, here goes nothing. I’ve never understood that saying. Anyways, to be honest, I’m being lazy and haven’t guessed at what the key or title means. I read a couple comments and saw what they guessed. They all sound like good guesses though! I’m really excited for the third book! I keep on imagining scenes of what might happen in the book in my head. I also make movie trailers for the 3rd book in my head, even though they haven’t come out with any movies yet. A ton of my friends and family can’t wait for the book to come out!!! I’m recommending The False Prince to everyone I know practically! So far, a lot of my friends have been trying it out and love it! I’m sorry this comment is so long…. it’s one of my annoying habits. I know you can’t say anything about whether any of the characters die or what happens, so i’m not going to ask. I don’t think you’re going to kill off Jaron, but the sentence to the cover makes me think twice about it. For some reason I keep on picturing Roden being stabbed protecting Jaron. I don’t know why. I am soooo excited for the book to come out! I like the shattered objects trend. The funny thing is that when i read the first book, I thought a crown was going to literally shatter, and when i read the second, i thought Jaron’s sword was going to break. I’ve now realized that they aren’t going to break and are just objects in the story. The title is real mysterious!!! I thought the title would have something to do with Jaron’s station in the war. Like: The _____ Captain or something like that, since the first two books had to do with what he was (a prince, a king), but I like The Shadow Throne way better. Thanks for reading my obnoxiously long comment!

    • Thanks for writing, Brinley. Yeah, I can’t share details for book 3 of course, but I love that you’ve been picturing them and imagining ideas for yourself. That probably means you’re a very creative person and maybe will end up doing some writing yourself one day. When you describe seeing scenes like movie trailers – I do that too. Best wishes –

      • Yeah, I do write a lot. I’m getting crazy about it, but most authors tell me in this case crazy is a good thing. πŸ˜€ I honestly can’t believe you read my comment. Seriously. IT’S HUGE! I love imagining movie trailers for books (my own and others). A lot of times I imagine Jaron’s family watching the trailer to The False Prince and seeing their reactions.

  55. Counting down the days until this book comes out! Can’t wait to see what happens next in this wonderful series! My favorite books by far. Better then anything I’ve ever read. πŸ™‚

  56. I just discovered your books, and I’m almost finished the second book. I am completely looking forward to the third book!!! It is going to be rather painful to have to wait a whole year for the new one though! πŸ™‚

    • Hmm, if you read Runaway King slowly, maybe it’ll be much less than a year. ? Thanks Eleanor!

      • Lol! Too late! I stayed up late last night to finish it! I might just have to reread them several times until next year πŸ˜€ Thank you for the lovely story!

        • Thank you Eleanor. Sorry about your lost sleep…but not really. πŸ˜‰

  57. I just finished reading the first two books this weekend and have to say I’m totally bummed that I have to wait until April to read the next one! I loved the books and couldn’t put them down until I found out what happened. Wonderful job creating your characters and weaving your story line. I loved ever bit of it!

  58. Today we had an art contest at school. I entered a picture of Sage holding the roast that he stole in the first chapter of The False Prince. I did not win but one of my classmates won and she entered a picture of the crown on the cover of The False Prince. I saw the cover of The Runaway King entered by someone in the other fourth grade class. I should have entered the key from The Shadow Throne, even though not many people have read it πŸ™‚ . It was the last day of school and we only had an hour to draw. My other picture was way better because I probably logged 12 or 13 hours working on it, but we could not enter something we had already drawn. By the way, there are, as of June 17, 2:01:10 p.m., there are 257 days, 4 hours, 29 minutes, and 54 1/2 seconds until The Shadow Throne is published. I can’t wait until it’s published!!!!!

    • Fantastic, Tori! Thanks for keeping track of the time. If you or your friend want to send me your artwork, I’ll post it here on the blog! Thanks for choosing these books for your subject.

      • You are one of my favorite authors and I’ve read the Ascendance series 4 times and my mother takes your books away from me as a punishment because I can’t put the book down. Seeing you respond to these comments by people really warms my heart and I want you to continue writing.

        • Thanks, David! I think it’s pretty cool you’ve enjoyed the books that much, though I’m sorry it got you punished (not super sorry though – mostly I think it’s pretty cool). I’ll keep writing if people like you keep reading!

  59. Oh, I can not wait! The slogan alone gives me chills every time I hear it! I’m kind of scared to read it though, because I don’t want the characters I have grown to love to change/die. But hey, I guess it just makes the book better. The date just can’t come fast enough!!

  60. Me and My Friend Lexi went outside and acted out scenes from THE FALSE PRINCE and THE RUNAWAY KING, for hours. We thought we were only out there for maybe ten minutes!! So I guess all we have to do is act out scenes like that for months and THE SHADOW THRONE will be out in no time!! By then we’ll probably have the whole book memorized, and when anyone asks what THE FALSE PRINCE is about, we can just tell them to sit down and act out the whole thing! Aaaah! So excited for THE SHADOW THRONE!! I’ll just keep up with your website, and keep acting and drawing until it comes out. So excited!!!

  61. Though I haven’t been a teenager for some time, these books transcend age. Crisp, with fully developed characters, wry humor and a storyline that keeps you riveted, full of unexpected twist and turns that make perfect sense. I read both books in three days, could not put them down. Very eager for the third installment!

  62. False prince False prine

It’s over no not can’t be

    Runaway king Runaway king

No Way no way it can’t end like that.

Oooooooo there is a third book

    Can’t wait

    Love ,Alexis

P.S. That was what I aw thinking when I was reading it.You should makea prequel of jarons life before e tured into sage.

    • Great poem, Lexi, and interesting thought about a Jaron prequel. It’d probably be pretty fun, or else some of his adventures while living in the orphanage perhaps?

      • I would love to read that πŸ˜€

      • I would love that too!!

  63. Omg thankkkkksssssss sooooooooo much. You are the best. I have been waiting so long. lv you Ms. neilsen.

  64. Sorry for bothering you but a you done writing the book?

    • It’s 99% finished, Kalley. Just some minor copyediting and then it’s off to post-production!

      • Yea!!!!

  65. HΔ« Ms. Nielson Im a big fan Of the Ascendance trilogy and was wondering when is Sages Birthday?

  66. Hi! I absolutely love your books! I stayed up until 4 in the morning reading the second one! ^^ You are a mastermind at giving your characters specific personality and helping them really come to life! πŸ™‚ I enjoy drawing a lot (though I’m not great) But I cannot stop drawing everything from this book. X) thank you so much for sharing this story with all of us!!!

    • Thank you, Annabelle. I’m sorry you lost so much sleep, but not really. πŸ˜‰ If you ever want to send me your art, please feel free – I’d love to see it!

  67. I need this book NOW! Haha, I really hope I get an ARC of this final installment to complete my set! I cannot wait! I love to cover/title so much!

    • Thanks, Zachary. That would be awesome if you get an ARC! I’ll try to hold a giveaway contest late this fall or in winter.

  68. Will there be any kind of giveaway when the book first comes out?

  69. I started reading your novel first based just upon the rating… But then when I read i realized that its worth the welcome… Eagerly waiting for the third part… wish the same thrilling story like before… Best of luck πŸ™‚ <3

  70. Arggggg! The wait will be worth it though. I am a HUGE fan of the trilogy. I just finished the runaway king and am SUPER excited for the final chapter of Sage/ Jaron’s journey. (But let’s not forget Imogene, Mott, Amarinda, Tobias, and the latest additions Fink, Harlowe, and to much surprise you know who) keep up the good work! AND THERE’S A MOVIE COMING OUT. So jazzed!

    • Thank you, Elizabeth! Keep your fingers crossed about the movie – I certainly am!

  71. I LOVED THE RUNAWAY KING! It was such a cliffhanger! I will be looking forward to book 3!

  72. I’m so excited for this! Just bought (and reread) The False Prince and loved seeing all the hints for the twist at the end now that I know it. It made it just as fascinating the second time around.

    • Thank you, Tasha. It is a different read the second time through, but I’m glad you enjoyed it as well!

  73. the series reminds me a little Oliver Twist/The Prince and the Pauper, and I love how it also has a distinct personality of its own. I absolutely LOVE Sage/Jaron- he is a master of equivocation! I almost cried when the significance of Sage’s enigmatic golden rock was revealed. I’m wondering, though: ypu’ve said that Sage sometimes surprise you. How can this be, since the author creates the characters?
I adored the first book, and the second book was even better. Can’t wait for the final installment!!!

    • *surprises*, sorry.
In other words, do characters develop spontaneously in your mind, or do you have to think through each one and consciously choose personality and other distinguishing characteristics?

      • Ah, I see. For me, it happens both ways. For Jaron, he came to me instantly and complete. I may have consciously created his background, but his personality was just there. For some of the other characters, like Amarinda, I created the personality I wanted in her position. If you’re a writer, I assume the same is true for you, right?

        • sort of- I’m just starting to write fiction, and usually I know the relationships/dynamics between main characters already, but I have to plot out the details like how they met,why they like/dislike each other, etc. Keeping the action going vs. too much introspection on the main character’s part is proving a challenge

          • Mindy – that is a challenging part of writing. Before writing your actual story, try just writing some practice scenes that explore those open questions, preferably ones full of conflict and challenge. Those pre-writing activities will help you find your characters and their relationships. Good luck!

        • Oh wow, thanks SO MUCH for that advice, Ms. Nielsen!!!!!(I couldn’t respond to it below, so this message refers to the one from July 7.)Also, PLEASE keep writing!

  74. I can’t wait for The Shadow Throne. You are an amazing writer, Jaron is an interesting character, Every time I read it I feel like I’m in Carthya experiencing everything Sage/Jaron is. I’ve actually done some drawings .

    • Beautiful art, Ashly! You have quite the talent, especially with your watercolor skills! Thank you so much for sharing this with me, and with your other fans online.

  75. My son just got the first two books with Jennifer Nielson’s autograph as part of the scholastic book contest. He was so excited!! Thanks for participating in such an awesome contest that continues to encourage a love of reading in children, Ms Nielson!!

    • Wonderful – congratulations to him! I hope he’ll enjoy the books.

  76. Hi Mrs.Nielsen, I had a question regarding The Shadow Throne. Since it says: “Die for the throne” Will Jaron die?

    • Ruth – It’s a great question, but one that of course I can’t answer! πŸ˜‰ I can say that Jaron is in a tough place in book 3. Everything is going to be harder than before…

  77. Wow, I’m so excited for the third book to come out! The Ascendance trilogy is my favorite series. I’m glad the release date is in 2014, because it shows you’re taking your time with it. Quick question – before you write each book, do you know the exact storyline, or do you just go with the flow?

    • Thank you, Suri. I’m glad you’ve been enjoying the series so far. To answer your question, I do know the entire storyline before I begin writing. I might not have all the details and some story elements might change, but I always know from the beginning how things will end.

  78. Could you give me some hints?

    • Hmm. I can confirm there is a plot, with a definite beginning, middle, and end, and a bunch of stuff that happens, some good and some not so much. Also, Jaron is in it, and probably some other characters you already know. Also, the word “the” seems to pop up on nearly every page for some reason. πŸ˜‰

Seriously, if you’ve read to the end of Runaway King, you already know where the story has to go. An official summary should be appearing online very soon!

      • Thanks !

  79. Sooo obsesed with the ascendance trilogy!!! Don’t want it to end! I hope there will be a spin off series, and a movie series! πŸ™‚

  80. Hi Jennifer, enjoyed The False Prince and The Runaway King immensely… book 3 can’t come soon enough! Now on to casting the main character for your upcoming movie(s) — Jaron – played by Matt Bomer… likeable, witty, handsome, shifty, smooth talker… perfect!

    • He’s definitely all of that Christi, but maybe a bit past his teen years. πŸ˜‰ I’m actually working on a post right now for fantasy casting of a movie. Keep this idea in mind and maybe look at what others suggest.

      • Ooh, since we’re on the topic of a possible cast, I’ve got some ideas too. For one of them, I was thinking Colin Ford could be Sage. Hailee Steinfeld and Maia Mitchell seem good for Imogen.
And yes! A new post. He-he, I’m just addicted to this series and the wonderful characters inside. They’re so awesome.

        • Okay Ally, I added Colin Ford to the post – he was on my list too! We’ll get to the girls in another week or so (though I love both of those suggested names!).

  81. Hey Jennifer,
Not like this is the first or last time you are going to here it, but I have really enjoyed the ascendance trilogy and am looking forward to reading the third one. My sister convinced me that the third book was already available – pause for moment of shock and awe vs. heart-attack – which it isn’t. I’ll have to go tell her about it – that might be fun. Anyhow, your books have been very inspiring to writing my own, and I think that goes the same with my sister’s efforts. I wonder, who did you publish with? Good luck.

    • Thank you Elisabeth! I’m very glad you’ve enjoyed the books and even happier they’ve prompted you to write your own. Keep it up! My publisher is Scholastic and they’re fantastic!

  82. Sorry, one more thing (after editing my comment) I meant hear, not here – line two, word fourteen. And I probably should have said third book instead of third one at the end of line three. . . whatever. . . .something more exciting anyway. . . .who cares. Anyhow, I did tell my sister that the third book wasn’t available, and, unfortunately, there was no measurable response. She is sick – maybe that has something to do with it.

  83. Please, please…..tell me that Jaron/Sage does not die?! I will die inside, literally.

Getting off that subject, I truly love all of the book covers; although I very much liked the first cover that was released for The False Prince. Thank you, Jennifer, for the amazing, well-written Ascendance Trilogy. Also, my thanks to Christopher Stengel and Ken Choi for the book layouts and the fantastic cover art. The first cover by Tim O’brien was beautiful and well-designed. And last but not least, Kayley LeFaiver has my thanks for the very much needed maps shown in the beginning of each book.

    • Thanks Bailey. I’ve really loved the covers too, and I will pass along your compliments to the authors.

As to whether Jaron will survive Book 3. Um…March 2014!

  84. Ooh this is soo exciting! You’re such an amazing author and I just LOVE your books!!! Can’t wait to read The Shadow Throne!

  85. Your books are the best EVER!!!!! I LOVE YOU GREATEST AUTHOR EVER!!!

  86. I really admirer you as author Jennifer i think everyone should. I love your books and cant wait for number 3. πŸ™‚

  87. I am just saying I really admirer you as in author Jennifer. Whenever I read your books I feel like never putting them down its just so so amazing how good you right your books. I am so exited for number 3.

    • Thank you, Erik! I’m excited for The Shadow Throne to release as well – I hope you’ll enjoy it!

  88. I have a very big felling I will.

  89. Hey, Miss Nielson I was wondering how long the book will be because I usually finish reading your books in one day and then I feel like the book was too short and then I regret spending a lot of money on the book even if the book is awesome and interesting, I would rather get it from the library than spending so much money on buying it, the same thing happens with my video games.

    • Tasmia, the third book will be a little longer than the second book, but not by much. If you’d rather save your money and get this book from the library, then I understand.

      • However unfortunately it may be, I do very much intend to get mine from the library, but I’m fully convinced that these books are worth their weight in gold!! They’re awesome! And the second one took me all of three or four hours to read – I stayed up till two A.M. to do it because my brother was taking it away with him on the plane to wherever the following morning. Of course, that left me having nightmares about whatever would be happening to Imogen until Jaron would show up and save the day, but still . . .just kidding πŸ˜‰
If Tasmia reads your books in one hour, then Tasmia should take into account that Tasmia reads really fast, or I read exceptionally slow – I’d say both.

        • Thanks Elisabeth! I’m glad you got the chance to read it. (And no apologies about the library – that’s why they’re there!)

  90. Oh! I was just wondering are you gonna add to the trilogy after The Shadow Throne, just wondering. And I think I am also going to add comments every once and while because its just so interesting reading the other blogs and so cool righting on this blog. I have been reading the blogs for about a week and finally yesterday decided to white a comment, Oh i also agree with “Lexi” making a story of Jaron in the orphanage would be a pretty cool book.

I have also heard you are making a movie. I also can not wait for that. Now I’ve got two things too wait for. As soon as possible you should give everyone a sneak peek of the The Shadow Throne.

I f been thinking of all these different ways for book 3 too be like i am on pins and needles just thinking of it. One of the ways i thought was if Rodent didn’t kill Devlin and they tossed him with Gregor in the jail. And when they were at war when Avenia was attacking the castle and Devlin came up too Jaron with Imogen and a knife at her neck and told him too surender his army and let him kill Jaron or he wold kill Imogen and destroy his city and Jaron as well and then Jaron leaped at Devlin hit him in the hand with his sword then Devlin dropped the knife and Jaron went to hit him in the head with the blade but Vargan hit Jarons somewhat still broken leg and he fainted. When he woke up he was in his own jail but he still had the hairpin and easily broke out with it then hit one of Vargans vigils witch was not paying much atension and hit him hard with his fist then stole his sword and ran outside to find Vargan so close to stabing Rodent he took the knife he had out of his pocket chucked it at Vargan it hit his heart and he fell to the ground almost right after Vargan was killed that the armies ran off and Avenia surendered and Carthya won the war.

That my idea of it so ya, still exited for book 3 and the movie ill give you awhile to white book 3, bye, might right a bit tomorrow. πŸ˜€

    • Thank you, Erik. I think your ideas are very nice – maybe you should try writing your own stories sometime!

      • if you have no ideas for the end of you 3ird book go ahead use my ideas.

        • Thank you, Erik. I’ve got my ideas, but I appreciate your offer!

  91. Also just a quick question before i leave you alone what made come up with the names for the characters.

    • Great question, Erik. Most of the names were just me either looking for existing names to find the right one for the character, or else making up a name solely from my imagination. The two that have the most significance are: Conner (because he is a con-man) and Jaron’s name. I once knew a boy with that name and he was such an awesome kid that I thought if we had royals, he would be one. So when it came time to name the prince, I knew it had to be Jaron.

  92. Oh one last thing do you have facebook

  93. I need more friends on there then just 5 friends.

  94. I have just looked at your facebook page and saw you were you going to be at the Joseph-Beth book store. I can not go there because I am so far away from Lexington one day i hope you will come to my town.

    • That was already earlier this year. But hopefully in the next year or two I’ll get somewhere close to your town! I’ll post a travel schedule here on my website when I know it.

  95. I had been searching for a good read full of adventure and a little bit of laughs and you gave me a great read and an exciting world. I devoured the first two books and I am now impatient for the next! Thank so much for stirring up my need to read again!

  96. Mrs Nielsen,
I am going into 4th grade and I love your books! I read The False Prince and The Runaway King in 6 days-my favorite part is when I found out Sage was really the prince! I cant wait until March for The Shadow Throne. Is there any way to preorder it? Thank you

    • Thanks Adley! You can pre-order the book from anywhere you normally buy your books, although it might not be available online quite yet. Very soon though!

  97. Hi Miss Jennifer, you mention it in your books that you had adopted two of Sage’s traits from your students. Did they read your books? What did they think of you doing this?

By the way, that was a fantastic cover. The words written on it suggested more troubles/problems which Jaron must conquer in order to defend his country. It’s a pity that after Jaron was finally acknowledged as King and everything seems to end well for him but alas he is faced with Imogen’s kidnapping. His life is an never ending trouble. Hope this third book would let him to achieve the happy ending which he deserved to have.

    • Thanks Joey. I know one of the students knows about the books, but I’m not sure of the other. And yes, he does deserve a happy ending eventually. Hopefully Book 3 will go that way for him.

  98. First of all, I’ll say I’m DYING to read the third book and that I’ve read The False Prince 5 times and The Runaway King 3 times and I’m not joking. That means a lot–usually I can’t read a book again not to mention 2 times or more! I have just one thing to ask: in the Runaway King, did you make the name Devlin out of the word “devil”? If you did, it was perfectly suitable for the dead pirate captain.

    • Thanks Russie. I’m really glad you’ve enjoyed the series so far. On your question, yes, that is how I got the name Devlin. It seemed to fit him very well.

      • Whoops. What I really mean is thank you for replying back so quickly!

  99. I need your opinion, should i enter contest or not.

    • My opinion is always to try – for whatever the thing is in life. You might not win but you for sure won’t win if you don’t enter!

  100. Hey Jen, (can I call you that)

I totally L-O-V-E love your books. I want a prequel or a sequel to the series. My 5th grade teacher like to read us books. So she said she loves this book. (she is the greatest book adviser EVER so yeah I was going to listen) Anyway she read it to us (and every time she said Jaron we would all look at this guy in my class who’s name is Jaron) and i had to read the sequel. But I totally die when i found out how it ended so just a couple days ago i looked at this blog and was like
“YES!!!!!! YES!!!!!!!!! YES!!!!!!!!” then “NOOOOOOOOO!!!” but i think i can live long enough to get the 3rd book

  101. i mean died when i found out!!! whoops hey by the way I act also act out the scenes but alone. And do you think i have a chance of being princess Amerinda (sorry it’s probably spelled wrong) i have brown hair and I’m 5 foot 1 and 2/3 and i look like I’m in high school? Also do you live in Morgan? Because my cousin claims she knows and has seen you there.
Also thanks to your books, I have started my own. Wish you luck on your book and movie. and wish me luck on mine.

your biggest fan and your new friend (hopefully)

    • Thanks Anna! I’m glad you’ve enjoyed the first two books and I hope you’ll like the third just as much. If a movie is made, I will post audition information here, though I will have absolutely zero input into who gets cast. And I think that’s awesome that you do writing of your own – keep it up!

  102. Can I just say, Oh My Gosh one of my favorite authors is actually typing/writing to me! Eek!!! And I know I’m going to love the third book already! the subtitle is intense! Thanks!

  103. I had the same question as Russie when i was reading the Runaway King. I was reading it with my cousin, and we pause to think about that. It’s been pulling on me everyday. Thanks Russie and Jen!!!

    • You’re welcome!(grin!)

  104. Hey Jen,

Do you think you could read my book when it’s finished? You can make as many as corrections as you want (if you want to read it).

    • Anna –

It’s a kind offer to let me read your writing, but I’ve got enough corrections on my own writing to do! Your best bet is to find a friend who is also interested in writing and exchange stories with her.

  105. Thanks for your reply! I’m already doing that with a friend, but maybe I could ask my teacher to correct it for me. Thanks again! I’ve writing a lot, but you’ve taken the time to write to me, to that I again say, Thanks! πŸ™‚

  106. I got chills just looking at the tital

  107. Hey. The cover for the book is amazing. I love the color and es apically the key. The key hold so many possibilities. Ms. Nielsen what is on your selves now. Trouble, danger love????? :):) I can not wait for march 1st 2014 then again there have been rumors that the shadow throne might be released even sooner like Feb. 25 of 2014. I found this on amazon so I am not sure which on to believe. Hopefully its the sooner one I can’t wait it seems like FOREVER!!!!!! For my birthday I got a gift card to this bookstore and I know exactly what i am going to buy.;) Thank you so much for everything and creating this fantastic series.

    • Thanks Sarah – I love the cover too! My current read is “Divergent” by Veronica Roth, and I’m loving it so far. I think there is a chance that Shadow Throne might be released on Feb 25, though I haven’t heard that for sure yet. Happy birthday (late)!

  108. Your writing has inspired me to work at my own writing. The False Prince transports the reader into a world of suspense. Please continue to write! There are so many books but very few great books worth reading! I will read your books over and over again!

  109. Has anyone else noticed that on every cover, there’s a broken work of metal with a different color velvet/silk/satin/cloth background? I just finished the second today, and I’m DYING! I know from personal experience how long it takes to write a book, but please try to hurry. I can’t wait!

  110. Hello Mrs. Nielsen I am a sixth grader and a huge fan of your ascendance trilogy and I am just curious if there is an excerpt coming out soon of The Shadow Throne. or if the book is coming out early on Amazon or somewhere else. but I have done my summer reading project on The False Prince and I loved reading it over and over again. I love your books and I am looking forward to reading The Shadow Throne. Looking forward for your reply! Bye!

    • Thanks Shria – I’m glad you’ve enjoyed the books! I think a story summary may be posted soon (though I’m sure it won’t contain as much information as you’d hope for), but I don’t know if or when excerpts will be released. I wouldn’t expect Amazon to ship any earlier than your local bookstore, but I do think the release date has been moved up to February 25. I hope you’ll enjoy “The Shadow Throne” when you do get it. War is Coming…

  111. Day one of camping and I’m already finished the first book. Didn’t see the twists coming at all. My mother and sister recommended the book after meeting you at a book signing. Boy am I excited to read book two. My question is how in the world do you find time to respond to all your comments? Frankly I find it quite amazing. I’m a tech guy on youtube and get many emails a day and often find it hard to respond to everyone. How do you do it?

    • I hope you’re enjoying the camping, and yes, if you liked Book 1 please do read “The Runaway King” where for the new king, things only get worse.

On emails, if you do a lot of YouTube stuff then yes, you do understand emails. I guess I just make the time because I figure if a fan takes the trouble to find me, they deserve a reply.

      That said, I haven’t had breakfast yet. I think that’s next… πŸ˜‰

  112. I absolutely love these books I stayed up all night reading them! You are an amazing author!!!!

  113. I loved loved loved your first two books and I’m really extactic for the third I know it won’t come out till march but can you pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee hurry I’m dying to know what happens

    P.S your a grate author

    • Thanks Arayna! The Shadow Throne is entirely written. Now it goes into post-production such as layout, printing, and distribution. But I think the new release date may be moved up a week, to Feb. 25, 2014. So that’s something, at least!

  114. I began reading this trilogy because The False Prince was a Kentucky Bluegrass Award Winner for 6-8 grades. I usually don’t like medieval fiction but I LOVED the book and immediately bought the second. I can’t wait for the third book to arrive so war can begin. I will definitely be encouraging all of my students to read your books!

    • Warmest thanks, Deena. A recommendation is the highest of compliments. And yes, Jaron’s war comes ever nearer!

  115. I literally almost fell out of my chair. The title is AMAZING; the cover STUNNING. I’m so excited to read what’s behind them! Jennifer, you have done such an excellent job on the first two. You inspired me to work on my own writing & stories. Thank you! Can’t wait for March!

    • Sorry about your near mishap with the chair, but I’m glad you liked what you saw. πŸ˜‰ I hope you’ll enjoy the read just as much as the first two, and I’m so thrilled to hear you’re doing your own writing too! Keep going with it!

  116. I’m so excited I can’t wait!!!

  117. is there gonna be movies?

  118. I absolutely loved your books. your character is so different from anyone else. he truly is one of a kind. i cant wait for the next one to come out. you are an amazing writer. i love, love, love the way you built Jaron’s character and cant wait to see what you come up with next. πŸ™‚

  119. OMG I cannot wait I am dying I am a huge fan of this series I want to read this book SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO badly I am 10000000000% getting it when it comes out. I wish SOOO much that i could read it right know!!!!!!! OMG!!!!!!!! <3

  120. I soooo badly wish I could get this for my birthday But I cant because my birthday is September 8(:):

  121. A fantastiv story on a dark game on king! Can’t wait to read the book 3.

  122. I LOVE the series!!! HUGE fan! and I am only 13!!! Thank yous so much for writing this!!!

  123. Hi! I have read the first 2 books in 2 days! In fact that’s the shortest that I’ve taken to finish a book!

Can you tell us if Imogen and Jaron will have a happy ending? I have grown quite fond of that couple…

    • Thanks M! About your question, I can confirm that there is an ending, right around the final pages of the book. The details…of who lives and dies, who ends up as a couple (hint: it’s two of the people who survive), and who is happy on the last page….are reserved for February 25, 2014. War is coming…

      • O.o You are the author who ever bothered to reply back to me O.o

Is February 24 2013 when the synopsis or the book come out?

It’s so painful to wait for the ending!!! I dont think I’ll make it that long.

B.T.W I think your books are MUCH better than the Hunger Games! Hopefully in the near future, it might surpass the Hunger GAmes in the rest of the world

        • Thanks M, that’s all very kind. Feb 25 is when The Shadow Throne will be released. A summary should appear online soon.

  124. I know that the end is still a mystery to me, but depending on how it ends, I hope you write a 2nd series based on years in the future as Sage is older πŸ™‚ I would love to see how he matures even further…and quite honestly I just don’t want to say goodbye πŸ™

    • Thanks Adriana – a follow-up series would be really cool…providing that Sage survives book 3, of course… πŸ˜‰

  125. please keep writing great story..I loved all of them. Anticipating book 3, cannot wait for March 2014.. kudos to you! Godbless!

  126. The first time I read The False Prince was because of the title. But it ended up being one of my all time favorite trilogy.I really need the third book like now! The date is so far away .

    • It is a bit far away, but every day it gets closer. War is coming…

  127. Is “The Shadow Throne” the last book of the false prince?

    • Mariah, that’s the current plan. I may eventually change my mind, but for now, that’s the final book.

      • PLease dont stop at three make more, your books are the best book series ive ever read so please dont stop this amazing series!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

        • I’ll definitely keep this in mind! I love the world and the characters too – perhaps there can be more eventually.

  128. I Cant wait for the next book to come out! i have red the first 2 twice!!! Please hurry I cant wait any longer!!!!

    • Thanks for reading, Zackery! The Shadow Throne is being printed now. It’ll be in stores on February 25th. War is coming…

  129. Jennifer you have made me addicted to this series! I didnt think i would like this book but when you came to my school i read it AND LOVED IT but i hate how books take so long to wait D:…. well anyway GOOD LUCK ON THE BOOK

    • Thank you, Reader!

      • Hello Mrs Nielsen

Can you please send me an email when the shaddow throne is released? and also can i have a pdf of the work in progress book so far? thanks, hope you dont mind

        • Jaron,

The Shadow Throne will be released on Feb 25, 2014. And I wish I could send you a pdf of the story, but I’m afraid you’ll have to wait until it’s released. It’ll be worth it though! War is coming…

  130. I cannot wait! I had the runaway King on Amazon Pre-order before it came out! I have read both the False Prince and the Runaway King SO MANY TIMES! They’re just that good!

    • Thank you, Josey! I hope you’ll enjoy The Shadow Throne too!

  131. Hi!

I was wondering if during the short time Jaron spent in the castle as King.Asides from Conner,Amarinda,Roden,Tobias and Gregor, did anyone know about the close “close” friendship of Jaron and Imogen.I ask this because if there isn’t…I sense that one of Jaron’s friends is a traitor…

Awesome cover. But why is every object in the bookcovers of the trilogy always damaged?

    • Great question, Mahina! I think most people would know that Jaron and Imogen are friends, but whether Jaron has a traitor in his midst? Hmm…

And the objects are damaged because the kingdom is broken. The question is whether Jaron can repair it.

      • Hi!

I was actually asking about if they knew about their romantic feelings. In THE Runaway King,Amarinda seems like the only one who knows…in fact she sounds like the traitor to me because she is a bit TOO concerned about Carthya. The part when she tells Jaron that she was befriending his enemies to find their plots wasn’t really convincing.

(Maybe the only reason I blame Amarinda is because in The False Prince it seemed like Jaron and Imogen were going to be together and that last part with Jaron and Imogen in the Runaway King was so sad.)

Question: I am making a story and I want my main character to die.My main character is narrating the story. How can I do it to make it sound not awkward? Should I change it to a second-person story?

        • Okay Mahina, I understand. In Book 3, Jaron will explain his feelings for both Imogen and Amarinda, and come to understand theirs as well. I agree that in Book 2, Amarinda seems to understand there’s something between Jaron and Imogen, but even she is bound by the treaty keeping her and Jaron betrothed to each other. So yeah, the end of Runaway King is sad in that way, but it probably had to be done. If war is coming, Jaron knows he needs the alliance with Amarinda’s home country of Bymar or Carthya has no chance of surviving.

On your writing – yes, you can definitely have a main character narrator who dies. Just stay very close to their emotions at the end. Or, you can switch to another character at the end – it’s tricky but a lot of authors have done that successfully. Good luck!

  132. WAIT!! :O BY fight for the future die for the throne …….. Do you mean…… Jaran is……. GOING TO DIE???????? for his kingdom? THIS IS SO SUSPENSFULLL!!!!!! I cant wait!!!!

  133. My 13 year old daughter and I both read the first two books. We both agree that they are some of the best books we have ever read! Thanks for creating such an amazing story and sharing it with us!!

    • Thank you, Hanna! The best part of that whole sentence is it’s something you and your daughter can read together. I love that!

  134. Sorry about the blank comment, hit the wrong button. I’m so excited for the Shadow Throne! I hope Jaron comes out alright. I know he’s probably going to be a bit beat up though, since he’s Jaron. The cover looks so amazing! I think the key represents Imogen’s dungeon key, and the title…. that one’s a bit harder. I originally thought, when I first saw the title, that the Shadow Throne was the throne of Avenia, since Avenia’s throne is unstable and the only reason it isn’t overthrown is because the people are afraid of Vargan. It’s a “Shadow” because it’s not substantial, and neither is a shadow, and because the throne’s ruled with darkness. I may or may not be right. Chances are the title has a deeper meaning. I’m so excited to see what happens in the third book! I am dying to read it! Seriously, I might faint when I get my hands on it. You should’ve seen my reaction when I got the Runaway King at my book fair. πŸ˜€ Take your time with it though. Does anyone else besides me just sit down and play a trailer of the False Prince or Runaway King over and over again in their head? Or listen to the audiobook 600 times over to try to satisfy the need for more of Jaron’s awesome personality? You did an amazing job with this book series, Jennifer!

    • Thanks Brinley! Interesting theories. The Shadow Throne is coming soon…

  135. That looked way shorted when I typed it up! I swear! In a shorter version:
I think the title has to do with the throne of Avenia (because it’s dark and unsubstantial, like a shadow).
I think the key is to Imogen’s dungeon.
I love your books Jennifer and listen to/read them almost every day!!! I can’t wait for the third book! I seriously might faint when I get my hands on it. You should’ve seen me when I found the Runaway King in my book fair last year. I started screaming and jumping up and down and hugging the book like it was my long-lost brother. My friend just stared at me like I was growing ears out of my head.
Jaron rules (literally and figuratively). I hope he comes out alright! If he dies I will cry for at least a week, but I don’t think he will.

  136. Hi Ms. Nielsen,

  137. Oh my gosh! Ahhh I’m so excited. I just re-read the first two books for the sixth time and I can’t wait! I think the suspense is literally killing me. I guess I’ll just have to wait, sadly. At least I’m not in any literal pain like Jaron constantly is…

    • Thanks Sarah! At least Jaron gets this time to rest between books, right? War is coming…

  138. I was also wondering…. I am having some difficulty pronouncing the names? How would you pronounce them?

    • I figure you’ve got Sage and Conner. Imogen is Im-(rhymes with Him)-o-gen. Amarinda is Am (Sam)-a(duh)-rin(sin)-da(duh). Roden is Ro(So)-den. Tobias is To(Toe)-bi(Bye)-as(us). Cregan is Kree-gun. Any others?

  139. OH MY GOD! I can’t wait for “The Shadow Throne” and I don’t know if my little fan girl heart can take it.. I read the other 2 books and I got really hooked, I love everything and the writing was just amazing πŸ˜€ Thank you Ms. Jen, your awesome..

  140. I came across “The False Prince” and “The Run Away King” (via cd) at the library. I drive my son to early morning Seminary and needed something for the hour ride. Thank you for a very enjoyable listening! I went to check out the 3rd and found out it hasn’t been released, yet. I look forward to it’s release and think your books are good enough to buy for the family library. πŸ™‚

    • Thank you Myra – I’m honored if the books can become part of your permanent collection. Best wishes –

  141. The trilogy so far is amazing! Your spectacular books make me want to write some of my own. The whole class is into the books and I just want to say you are a really good writer. I can’t wait until the third book!

    • Thanks Micah, that’s awesome! Even better would be if you did try writing your own – go for it! Then you’ll own the world you create.

  142. Hi! I am such a big fan of your books!
    They’re AMAZING!!!
My sister and my friends and I all the way in Nigeria can’t get enough of them, and we’re so excited for the next book!
I love love love Sage, I mean Jaron!
    He’s such a fantastic character!
And we were wondering, who would you think would best portray Jaron in the movie?
Anyways, I can’t wait to add this book to my shelf!

    • Thank you, TemiS! I’m so glad you and your sister and friends are enjoying the books. For some of my ideas on who might be good to portray Jaron, you can look at this blog here, and even vote for your personal favorite:

I’ve seen a few other fan-cast pages on the Internet too, and some of them look really interesting!

  143. I totally loved book one and two! The False Prince trilogy is my favorite book series and they are perfect. I died when i saw the release date. When i revived i legitimately ran around the house screaming! Cant wait until march 1st. It already deserves 5 stars although it is not out yet.

    • Thanks Annie! And in better news, the release date for The Shadow Throne has been moved up to Feb 25 – a week early! I hope you’ll enjoy it!

  144. OH MY GOODNESS!!!!!! I’m so excited. These next couple of months will be difficult to get through!! Thank you so much for being my inspiration and for writing these books. Also for keeping them clean ;D. I am in love with Jaron and can’t wait to see where you take the next book. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! You are my favorite author!!!!!

  145. I love your books! I recommended them to all of my friends, and they all loved them too! Even their moms liked it! We are all dying for the release of the 3rd one! That would be amazing, if there was a movie!! You are one of my favorite authors!

    • Thank you, Grace! I hope you’ll enjoy The Shadow Throne just as much!

  146. Your books are amazing, I can’t wait for the movies to come out, but they can’t be as detailed as the book though. D:

    • Thanks Max! If there is a movie, you’re right that it wouldn’t be as detailed, but I figure it’d add other really great moments to the story too.

  147. hi Jennifer
I absolutely love your books they’re my favourite ever….

    so excited

recommended them to all my friends.

    Jaron is the best ever!!!!!!!

    please make some more books

like have another series about jaron and imogens/amarinda’s whoever he ends up with’s child

    if they have one!!!!!!

    • thx

    • Thank you – if Jaron survives the third book, that might be a cool idea. And I appreciate you recommending the books to your friends!

  148. I just let off the loudest squeal I think I woke my mum up, woops! I’ve just finished the second book and I’m jumping out of my seat right now for the third book, I just can’t wait! This is an awesome series you’ve written Jennifer, keep going! It’s pretty sweet that they’re making “The False Prince” into a screenplay, though I’m a bit nervous of how it’ll go! I guess we’ll just have to wait and see. Thanks for writing this fantastic series!

(I think all of my sentences ended in “!”… I’m just too excited. I’m fourteen and I was wondering if you had any book/series suggestions, as I have a hard time finding a good read. I particularly like books set back in time, like the Ascendance Trilogy, and things with mystery and suspense. I’m not too fussy with the time period, in all honesty. Sometimes I like a bit of supernatural stuff to spice things up too!)

    – Kez πŸ˜€

    • Thanks Kez! I’m glad you’re enjoying the series.

For book recommendations, you might look at LEGEND by Marie Lu, the RANGER’s APPRENTICE series by John Flanagan, and SEVEN WONDERS by Peter Lerangis.

  149. Hey Jennifer,

I’m thinking of starting a blog in a couple days, and I am going to put a section for readers so they can find good books and when different books in the series comes out or when the movie comes out. In that section, the first books that will be placed in the suggestion area is The False Prince. Just FYI, and You are also my top #1 female authors. I also heard that if you read good books, then you will be a better writer. I read your books ever month to help me with my book. Thanks for writing really awesome, good books. πŸ™‚

  150. If this is really the author of the books, I just read The Runaway King and I thought it was great. It wasn’t till the end of the book I realized that it would have a sequel and that there was also a book that came before it. I used this book for a project in Honors Comp/lit 9th grade. I came across it in my library at Central High school where we had to choose a fiction book. I feel ashamed however that I picked it because it had a sword on the cover but when I started to read, it was hard to stop. I really like it and think you an artist of books. I’m in 9th grade by the way. I am an artist myself both in writing and drawing. Any advice? Please respond to this by email because I’m not sure if I’ll return to this site. I can’t wait for the next book. Where there be any romance? I hope so. I love Romance/Adventure in those times. Modern day romance is so dull. I hope you respond and I hope that this book will be very successful! Thank you for your time.

    • Hey, Skilar, this is the author. I think it’s funny you started with The Runaway King – that was probably a bit confusing. But I’m glad you enjoyed it. I love that you’re artistic both with writing and drawing – if you’re serious about your art, then start looking at it the way an artist does. Why does a particular book work, or not? What are the details that set an ordinary painting apart from an extraordinary one?

Also, if you’re so inclined, watch this speech by author Neil Gaiman. Everyone should watch it, but artists especially:

I can’t really say what’ll happen in the third book, but you’re not alone in hoping to see some romance.

      • Woooohooo Thanks

  151. Hey Jen!
You are awesome at writing, I love the series! Jaron always finds trouble πŸ˜€
Do you think you will make another series?

    • Thanks Zentec – Jaron definitely has a way of getting himself into trouble!

I actually am already at work on my next series, one that involves an escaped Roman slave, stolen magic, and the fall of Ancient Rome. I can’t wait to begin sharing it!

  152. What is the ETA for the other series?

    • For the new series, Praetor War? That’ll be spring of 2015. I’m writing Book 1 of that now.

  153. Thanks. Well I’ll be waiting for that series, seems promising!

    Thanks! πŸ˜‰

  154. Okay I will be DEFINITELY waiting for that. Keep on writing series, you are amazing!

  155. You have very amazing books please do not stop. I have been inspired to write m own book now.

    • Awesome! I love it that you want to write too. Go for it!

      • You shood make a video game ?

  156. When my friend told me you had replied her post I was so shocked. I am so happy I got to read your books. I was bored one day and found this website that had the cover for the false prince and a short description. Up to today my friends and I are still wondering why I spent so much time web stalking the book. I waited for it for nine months, not reading any sneak peaks, nada just waiting. I don’t know what it was but when I finally got the book, I read it twice, which is a shocker for me. I’ve never done that with any book, EVER! (note did not sleep through out saturday, the first time I read it) On Sunday I sent the book to my friends, note that I had not told them a single thing about this book or my web stalking, and the next day, when we saw each other, we were screaming like crazy through the halls. People were looking at us like we were crazy, and we were! Crazy in love! We have stalked this series since then and it never gets old. We are african americans, born and bred in the us for the first few years of our lives and currently residing in Nigeria now. Up to today, when we discuss with friends about our favourite books we still shriek at the thought of the false prince. And when people ask we go “Girl, do we have a story for you”. Thank you for this book and for what ever magic you cast on me to stalk it.

    • That’s one of my favorite messages ever. Thank you Nola, for reading…and stalking!

  157. Omg!!!! Will u please please please post a sneak peek for book 3? I am so dying to read it!!!

    • Hopefully soon! And I’ll have an ARC giveaway in December for people who want to try winning an early copy.

  158. Hi Miss Jen! I am totally addicted to your books…
I am DYING for book 3!
I am going to buy it as soon as it comes out in Australia (My country)
I love the books soooooo much!!!
I love the characters-Imogen, Roden, Tobias, Mott and JARON!!
You are the BEST author in the world!!!!
    Love it πŸ˜‰

  159. I love your books and I cannot live without the magical world of Jaron and his friends!!
You are an AMAZING author and I read the first book in a couple of hours and did not even come down for dinner πŸ™‚
    I can’t wait until book 3!!!!
As for book two, it took me even LESS!
It’s like I’m in another world in the book!
This is the best book series ever and thank you for writing such addicting books for me to be engaged to…
    You are my inspiration!!!
P.S. Where did you get the idea of Jaron?

    • Thank you! The idea for Jaron came from a song called “Guaranteed” by Eddie Vedder. A line in the song says “I knew all the rules, but the rules did not know me, guaranteed.” And I thought that was the character I had been looking for, someone who knew exactly what game he is playing, but the other characters don’t know the rules are being quietly rewritten.

  160. I love the ascendance trilogy, Ms.Nielson! I love the stupid things Jaron does, ending up benefitting everyone else. I was so excited when I heard the Runaway king was coming, so every week I would drag my mom to Barnes and Noble. When it finally hit the stores, I kept rereading those two books. Now, you’ve got me psyched up for the Shadow Throne which is coming up before my birthday. My parents told me they’re going to buy it for me. Jaron has a knack for getting under people’s skins and I love how his audience reacts to it. I cant wait till you post the first chapter or something. If you reply to me, that will be so cool. If you could, or rather want to, I should say, you can contact me at I love your books and I think your awesome! Thank you for writing this series and writing a book I absolutely love to reread! πŸ™‚

    • Thanks so much, Tina. I’m so glad you’re enjoying the series. I don’t know when (or if) chapter one will get posted before the release, but come back in December when I’m going to do a giveaway of an advanced copy of the book.

  161. Avery: OMG! I love your book so much!!!!!!!!! It was absolutely amazing! I love it!!!!!!!!! It is one of my fav books in the world… aijdhbfgjfngkjhgtbrh I am speechless it was so amazing!!!!! Your books are amazing! I would also like to say me and my friend Riley (SHe’s also a huge fan) are writing a book called the Validus! I was wondering if you had any tips for young authors like us who want to get a book published.

Riley: Your book is really good! Avery introduced it to me and I absolutely loved it. Even though she bought both the books and lent them to me, their our babies! It is practically my fav book series…. I know it is one of Avery’s too, she just has an obsession with Percy Jackson! Either way if you have any suggestions for people who want to be an author! PLease let me know!!!!!! Luved your books!!!!!!!

    Sincerely, Avery and Riley

    • Thank you, Avery and Riley. I think it’s awesome you’re both writing your own story. One thing that’s important is to love rewrites. The first draft only gets the bones of the story in place, but later drafts are where the art really begins to rise. So rewrite, rewrite, rewrite! Good luck!

    • That’s super cool that you’re writing a book! Funny fact: Your comment caught my attention because Riley is the name of one of my characters in the book I’m writing. πŸ™‚ I will totally read your book if it gets published!

  162. OOOOOMMMMMGGGGG! SQUEEEEEEEL! AND EVERY OTHER POSSIBLE EXPERSSION FOR EXCITMENT!!! And for the record u are the best author ever! (What’s an arc giveaway?)

    • ARC = Advanced Readers Copy. It’s a copy of the book that is printed before the official hardcover. They send them to bookstores, libraries, and reviewers. I have some copies here that I can give away.

  163. Could you tell me if there is going to be another book after The Shadow Throne?
Maybe another book series about Jaron’s son…
    Anyway, I can’t wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

    • No other books are planned right now, but there may be more in the future. And a book about Jaron’s son, huh? I’m thinking a daughter, who is just as big a troublemaker as him – maybe worse. πŸ˜‰

      • That would be so cool!:) you should so do it!

      • I would TOTALLY READT THAT!!!!!!!

  164. OMG!!!!!!!
You replied to me!!!!!! πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚
When is the ARC giveaway because I am DESPERATE for The Shadow Throne and you are a very creative writer who has very original ideas – You are actually the ONLY one!
Anyway, Jaron’s daughter sounds AMAZING, I am 100% sure I will love her and her… naughtiness!

    • The ARC giveaway will probably happen in December, so stay tuned!

  165. I love your books they are sooooooooooooooooooo good! πŸ˜‰
You are my inspiration and I can’t wait for Book 3!!!!!
Thank you for welcoming me to your world full of twists and turns and I could finally escape all of the schoolwork…
You are the best author EVER and I really really am about to die for the Shadow Throne!! πŸ™‚

  166. I love this series! Its actually been a while since a book series got me so interested. I’m waiting for the last book to come out but I just can’t. I NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS TO JARON AND IMOGEN!!! THEY NEED TO BE TOGETHER!!! ERMAHGERD

But anyway, I’ve actually never been this interested in a book before. You inspired me to the point I tried to do the coin rolling. Just to let you know I still can’t do it.

    • When you do get a chance to read The Shadow Throne, I hope you will like the way things turn out. For the coin roll, you could look at this video and see if it helps:

      • Thanks for sending me a video! I’ll try to work on it. It’s a bit hard now since my hands are so cold to the point they feel stiff.
I would like to know if you are going to ever have a meet and greet type of thing for The Shadow Throne. It would be awesome if I could meet you in person!

        • Yes, please do warm up – that’s important!

I will be touring for The Shadow Throne, though I don’t yet know where it will take me. When I get my schedule, I’ll post it on the blog and it’ll be listed on this site under “Events.” I hope I’m coming somewhere near you!

      • That’s super cool to see how Jaron rolls the coin over his knuckles!

  167. Hey, i admire the amount of cleverness and twists and turns you manage to put into the first book. I wish I had the cleverness of Sage, and his abilities. I also know how to roll a coin over my finger too. πŸ™‚ Keep making the series a clever puzzle!

  168. Hi Jennifer,
I just wanted to let you know that you’re a great author! I enjoyed your books a lot :)! I can’t wait till I can read your 3rd book! (please make a 4th) πŸ™‚

  169. I CANNOT BELIEVE YOU JUST INSULTED FOURTH BOOKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can’t believe a share a weird seasons name with you, fourth book nagger! (and I’m, like, your biggest fan Jennifer Nielsen!)

  170. Wow. Your books are amazing. I’m a really, really big fan. Now PLEASE don’t take this the wrong way ( I’m a writer at heart, so I naturally have the ability to offend people without realizing it or meaning to) but are you really thinking about making a fourth book? Lots of people make fourth books to a trilogy and it’s super depressing watching the character grow up. Or to see how things have changed for the worse over a 30 year period. But whatever you do, I’ll still be your biggest fan. Really. Your BIGGEST fan. Don’t listen to all those other book obsessees.

    • Thanks for the input, September. I will make a fourth book if and only if a story is there that begins nagging at me. So if I write it, that will be because of my desire to tell more of the story. I hope that since you have a writer in you, that makes sense to you.

  171. OMG you replied to me!!!!! πŸ™‚
You are an amazing writer who got me to read the False Prince and the Runaway King so many times I have lost count!
These are the only books I have let myself re-read!
Could you please tell me if the Shadow Throne is coming out on March 1st in Australia as well as New York?
(I really wanted to go to America and wait for the book on February 28th, but my mum said the terrorism and such :()
Anyway, thank you for replying and actually being bothered to read my message!
    You’re the best!!

    • Thank you so much for your email, Anne, and thank you for reading. I think The Shadow Throne might be a little delayed getting to Australia, but in December I will be having an international giveaway for an advance copy. Check back then and I hope you win!

  172. P.S. I have decided to write a fan-fiction.
    Do you have any ideas?

    • Often, fan fiction comes from writers asking, “What happens next after..” or else a missing scene (writing something that happened in the story “off-screen.” Or choosing a favorite character and expanding their story from what is written. Good luck!

  173. Hi You r my favorite of authors ever! I really love the series even my teacher wants to borrow my book. I really hope you decide too write more than 3 books though. You are really an amazing author!!!

  174. when is it coming out I am desperate for this story

  175. Are u ever going to be signing books in Florida ever?

    • I don’t yet know my spring tour schedule, so maybe then. Other than that, I don’t have anything scheduled there, though Florida is one of my favorite states, so I’d love to get there soon!

      • Hey!!! I just finished your 2nd book, The Runaway King, and its so great!!! It’s my new favorite series, and I cant wait for the 3rd to come out. By the way, when is it coming out in Utah? I know it is your home state, but I wanted to be sure. I think that the cliffhanger ending will be the death of me. Best Wishes,
        Your fan, Livy

        • Thank you Livy! The Shadow Throne will be released on February 25, 2014. I hope you’ll enjoy it too!

  176. Hi Ms. Jennifer do you know the release date of shadow throne here in the philippines…. my friends and i are really looking forward to it πŸ™‚

    • Thanks Matthew! I believe it’ll be released on March 6, 2014 for the Philippines. War is coming…

  177. i love ur books:) they r so awesome. cannot wait for book 3 sage is so clever. i wonder how u come up with names so interesting. big fan

    • Thanks Shashi! Mostly I just make up the names, or I go through old baby name books until I find the names that fit the character. A few of the names do have meanings, such as Conner, because he is a con-man.

  178. I cannot find words to describe how awesome your 2 books have been u plan everything in such detail, its like u get sucked into the bookcant wait for book 3:)(they should make into a movie, it would be epic)

    • And thank you again – I hope they’ll make it into a movie. Keep your fingers crossed!

      • Oh my gosh that would be so amazing!!! If they do I will be the first to see it!!!

  179. Love the books! Keep up the great work. Sage Joran not Sage Haron. πŸ™‚ I like the name for Sage.

  180. I cannot wait for book 3!! my sister is a big fan of book 1.
When is it coming out for New England?

  181. I LOVE YOUR BOOKS! Ever since I saw The Runaway King being advertised on gaiaonline (I used to be on there) I added it to my book list. When The False Prince came up on my book list I jumped for joy! I didn’t draw a single breath before cracking it open. I read it in a week (if I was on vacation it would maybe take me an afternoon)! I am on chapter 26 (I think) of The Runaway King. SPOILER I was squirming at the branding iron part. . . SPOILER.
Anyway, Imogen. Just. . .adored by all. I LOVE her! I always imagined her to look like Mahoro in the cute maid way. Anyway, love your books, keep writing and I’ll keep reading. <3

    • Thanks Saori. I squirmed writing the branding iron part. And I love Imogen too – Mahoro is a cute way to think about her. Thank you for reading!

      • I was also squirming at the part where Roden broke Jaron’s leg with the club. xD You love to make me squirm, don’t you?
Anyway, thank you for your opinion about my opinion on Imogen.
Can’t wait for The Shadow Throne!
I finished The Runaway King this morning. Really good!
Anyway, Keep writing (It’s your special talent)!

        • Yeah, that was a tough scene. But I’m glad you enjoyed The Runaway King! Thanks for reading.

  182. When is It coming out for New England?
    Will Master Conner be mentioned?

    • February 25, 2014. And yes, there is still more to Conner’s story.

  183. I can’t wait until March 1st. This is great news, I love this series.
    Thanks again.

  184. Woooowwww!! You really answered. Thanks. Is Tobias and Roden going to be mentioned?

    • Also just a suggestion if you should have another series about Jaron, you should do a daughter like Jaron because like Jarons mother, she will be more Jarons than Amerindas.

    • Yep, there is more of each of their stories!

  185. Thanks, Miss Jen!!

  186. Miss. Nielson, if you do a tour for the “False Prince”, it would be great if you could come to Massachusetts.

    • That would be awesome! I’ll let my publicist planning the tour know.

  187. Jennifer, i love your books!!! I have fallen in love with Jaron……. so brave……

  188. Also are you really going to have a movie for the books and if so what books?

    • We don’t know yet. The screenplay (for The False Prince) is still being written. Keep your fingers crossed!

  189. will Tobias and Roden be in the story?

  190. Sorry to bother you again…
I was just thinking… do you get to find out about the early giveaway on the 1st of December this year on this website?
I will die if I don’t win the book!! πŸ˜‰

    • Yeah, it’ll be this year. I’ll try to post the giveaway rules on December 1 here on this blog. But if you don’t win, please don’t die.. that would be worse.

  191. My real name isn’t Anne Lerman…
    It’s Anne Pan.
    I don’t even know why I said that…
Please ignore my comment and work on your awesome books, Ms Nielsen!!

  192. Jennifer, make more false prince series!!☺ I LOVE THEM SO MUCH!!!! U R THE BEST AUTHOR EVER!!!!!:D

    • Thank you, Helen! Nothing is currently planned, but who knows what the future will hold?

  193. Are they making a movie of the False Prince

    • A screenwriter is working on a script for Paramount Pictures. When that’s final, they’ll make a decision. Keep your fingers crossed!

  194. I’m sorry I keep pestering u But what’s this about a free Book?

    • In December, I’ll do a giveaway for a paperback copy of The Shadow Throne. I’m not sure how many copies I’ll have to giveaway but it should be a fun contest!

  195. Sorry about that but how would u win and where could u win?

  196. Thank you Ms. Jennifer!:)

  197. How long will the free book thing last an where?

    • There will be a giveaway in December for galley copies (paperback advance books) of The Shadow Throne. Watch this blog then for more details!

  198. Thanks Ms. Nielson. Keep writing on the false prince.

  199. Hi Jennifer, i am so excited for your next book: shadow throne…… i am so excited!!!!!!!! ☺

  200. Hi Jennifer! I love your books! I am currently writing a a book so wish me luck! By the way, your books are really good but I’m a little bummed about Imogen. And I’m so sad I’ve gotta wait for the movie, AND the third book. And if you have any information on if there’s gonna be a book 4, I would love to know! Any ways thanks for reading! πŸ™‚

    • Jake – I think that’s awesome that you’re writing! I will definitely wish you luck! And yes, Imogen is in a bit of a pinch – let’s hope she makes it through! I guess we’ll all find out on Feb 25, right?

  201. Hi JENNIFER,
I have read both first books of the “the false prince” series.
How many characters from the first books will be mentioned and will there be the pirates be in it too? Also will Jaron survive and save Imogen? What about the princess, will she be safe?

    • Those are all such great questions! The answers are coming on Feb 25, 2014. Fight for the Future…Die for the Throne.

  202. OMG!! U really answered!! I LOVE the book cover but what does the key represent ?

    • It’s a symbol, as you know. Maybe of who will hold the key to the kingdom by the end?

  203. Also, Just a question but does Jaron die? If he does that would be just horrible!!!! If he does, who would king? This is so suspenseful already!! I can’t wait for book 3!!

  204. Hi Jennifer! I commented a few days ago, but im doing it again caude I’m at a loss of ideas for my book. I’m not asking you to tell me what to write about, but how did you come up for the idea for ‘The False Prince’? Please respond soon! Thank you!

    • Jake, sometimes it can be hard to know what to write about. But the more you learn how to keep your eyes open to story ideas, the more they will come at you. Just be patient. Stay curious.

The False Prince idea came from a song (“Guaranteed” by Eddie Vedder), and a lot of my ideas originate in music. But I also play a lot of “What if” games. Like, “What if there was an alien invasion right now?” That sorta thing.

      Good luck!

  205. Hi again. Just another question. Why did you chose “The Shadow Throne” for your title?
    Thank You

    • It’s a good question, though I think until the book releases, I can’t say much other than that I liked the title and it seemed to fit the plot okay. That’s not helpful, I know, but it’s the most I have right now. πŸ˜‰

  206. That’s a good enough for me. Keep on writing The False Prince.

  207. Hi Mrs. Nielsen.
Tina Marvine again! I have to do a book report on the ascendance trilogy( because it is so awesome)and I was wondering if you could answer the following questions for me?
    1) Is the King of Gelyn and/or Mendenwal going to help Carthya or Avenia in the war?

    2) Does Jaron ever lose his sword to his enemies?

    3) What time period does this happen within?

    4) How would you best describe Jaron/ Sage?

    5) Will Jaron get any more allies?

    6) Will King Vargan surrender to Jaron?

    7) Will Jaron give the position to someone and go back to being an orphan

    8) Who will fight with Jaron in the war, or will there be no war and just surrenders?
Thanks a lot Mrs. Nielsen. I thought I could show it on Monday to my class mates, it would be really cool!
    Tina Marvine πŸ™‚

    • Hi Tina. I got your email about this – I’ll answer there as soon as I can!

      • Thanks but I was hoping you will reply by Monday for my project! Thanks!

  208. Listen, I know I have been drilling you with questions, but will you keep writing this book series if you get more ideas and what will it maybe be about? And also how do you feel when you write?

    • I’m open to doing more books, but haven’t committed to any at this point, mostly because I haven’t found the story yet that needs to be written.

How do I feel when I write? If it’s going well, like a rush of adrenalin. If it’s not going well, like I’m trying to walk through a brick wall. Personally, I prefer the first to the second.

  209. Hi! Just wondering, are you going to announce the rules on December 1st?

    • Hmm, I dunno. If not Dec 1, then close to it. Before I know for sure I’ll have to actually figure out what the rules are going to be! πŸ˜‰

  210. HI again. Were will you be holding the book contest?

  211. He is going to die isn’t he?!?!?! D: I can’t wait to read it though I am actually reading the series for a second time XP PS. I am your most annoying fan huh? lol Be honest it’s fine

    • Ha! No, Dakotah, you’re not an annoying fan. I hope you enjoy the re-read!

  212. i loved the books and i cant stop my self from reading it just is a cliffhanger @ the end of evey book and i hope you will love it as much as i did

  213. Hello Jennifer
I’m from Malaysia, and yes! I love The False Prince and The Runaway King, and of course I’m anticipating The Shadow Throne πŸ™‚
Thanks for make a very interesting book ^_^

    • Thank you for reading, Zawani!

      • Wow! You replied πŸ™‚ I’ll be waiting to read the end of The Ascendance Trilogy. Keep writing, Jennifer !

  214. This is sort of a nosy question, but if you could go back to books 1 and/or 2, what would you change? (I want to be a writer someday, so I’m just curious)

    • Madeline – not much really. I’m sure wordings would change, or I’d tweak little details, but I tend to revise a ton, so that when I put out the book it’s what I want. If you’re a writer, learn to love revision, and good luck on your projects!

  215. OMG!!!! I just finished your second book, and I started about an hour ago…. I simply adore it! There’s honestly no competition about who’s my favorite author, you inspire me! I can’t wait until the third book comes out!
If there is a movie(I seriously hope so!) I have an idea that in book 1, in those 2 chapters where Sage becomes Jaron again, you could scatter it all across the movie as multiple flashbacks!
Can’t wait for the next book, your biggest fan,

    • Thank you, Angelina! That means so much to me. It’s an interesting idea for the movie – it’ll be cool to see how the screenwriter handles it!

  216. Hello. just a suggestion if u do a second series for the false prince. Maybe you could do mystery story with if you do a son or daughter of Jaron and Amirinda, the parents go missing and the kid would have to go in disguise and find them.

    • It would make a cool story. Maybe instead of waiting to see if I ever write it, you should give it a try! It sounds like you have a great imagination. You could probably do a great job!

  217. Loved the first two can’t wait for the third one. Looks greats please read my review at Love your books!

    • That was a fantastic review, Nate – thank you so much! I hope you’ll enjoy The Shadow Throne too! War is Coming…

  218. Miss Neilson, I don’t know about much about writing, but I will take your advice, and try maybe writing that book.

  219. Im from catalonia. IM REEDED “the false price” and “the runway king” and are my fauvorite books. When will the third in Catalonia????

  220. The false prince is going to be a movie right? I wish I was a actor because I would be a perfect Tobias!

    • I hope it will be a movie, but it’s still too early to know for sure. Keep your fingers crossed (and take some acting lessons, maybe?) πŸ˜‰

      • Thanks but writing is my life, but it would be cool if I was a actor.I would be a good Tobias. I have a good book Idea but it revolves around the hunger games and I would need her permission to write it!

  221. What type of movie would the false prince?
    P.G., G, R,

    • Hmm, I don’t know. Either PG or PG-13. I’d be surprised if it were anything else.

  222. Pg-13 I think . . . Whatever. I was wondering, who did you publish with before you published with scholastic ( – if anyone)? I tried to talk scholastic into publishing my book for me, but apparently I have to be popular or something first ( – but I’m pretty popular already if you ask me πŸ˜‰ – just kidding )

    • Elisabeth, I’ve also published with Sourcebooks. For Scholastic, it’s not the popularity thing because obviously you’d get in that way πŸ˜‰ but they do want you to have a literary agent (as do all major publishers). So you can look at smaller publishers or else polish up your work and start submitting to agents (there’s a lot of information online about that).

  223. You write wonderful books! There is a rare moment when you reach the end of a book and actually consider reading it again right there–I felt that way with the false prince. I have never read a character quite like Jaron before–he always keeps you guessing, and is extremely fun! I just started reading the series, and I finished book two last night at midnight! Can’t wait for book three πŸ™‚

    • Thank you, Charissa!

      • Oh my gosh, funny story. I’ve seen The False Prince around my school for about two years now and have never thought to actually read it. About a week ago, I pick up the book, read the inside cover and think, “Huh, this sounds pretty good.” So I check the book out and start reading. One period later at school, I’m fifteen chapters into your phenomenal book and I CANNOT absolutely CANNOT put it down. I finished the book around lunch the next day, stomped into the library, and dashed to ten counter. I told the librarian. “Look, I heard this is a trilogy and I need the next two books ASAP!” The librarian in turn gave me a sympathetic look, replying,”So sorry Honey, but the third book comes out next February and we don’t carry the second book here, but I can put in a request for The Runaway King from the High School.” I died inside before telling her that I’d wait to get the book from the High School. I finished The Runaway King the day it came to me from the High School….

The False Prince hooked me so fast it quite Litterally took my breath away. The book was, by far, the most amazing that I’ve ever read, and believe me, I READ A LOT. But this book is the best. The way that the characters were developed is such an amazing journey throughout the books, and a skill I very much envy. And the relationships between the characters are so perfectly thought out and humorous I can’t help but drool over your work. I believe that the connection between Mott and Jaron is the most humorous of them all. Either Jaron and him, or Conner. I can’t quite decide yet. πŸ˜‰ You have influenced me to write more than any other author has in my entire life. I’ve met the authors of tons and tons of books- Rick Riordan included- But they haven’t been as specallialy talented as you’ve been. With certain books, I’ll find myself growing bored and tired half way through the book, but yours always keep me entertained and I am honored to be reading such phenomenal work. I thank you so very much for writing these AMAZING works of art.

        • Wow, Shadow, that is exceptionally kind. I’m very glad to hear it encourages you to write, and I’m glad you’ve enjoyed the series. Just in case you’re interested, here on my blog (until this Sunday) is a giveaway for a signed galley copy of The Shadow Throne.

          • I think you’d be happy to know that it really does interest me a lot. πŸ˜€ I am very honored that you would reply to my comment, and I thank you graciously. You are my very favorite Author. πŸ˜‰

  224. I can’t wait for book three and I think that you should have a twist at the end so you can get started maybe on another series!
    Just a idea.
PS: you have the best books EVER!!!!!!

  225. Oh my god! YES! I just finished the first two books in the series and this one comes out just in time for my book review!!! Thanks so much for this series Jennifer and I’ll definitely be reading more of your books!

  226. I am really syked for the third book it will come out a day after my birthday i will get it right away

  227. I am such a huge fan of Ascendance Trilogy! I absolutely cannot wait for Shadow Throne! You are such an amazing writer Jennifer and have inspired me so much! I’m writing a book right now and it has all these random twists that remind me so much of Ascendance Trilogy! I think that’s what I love most about your writing style. It’s so outrageous that it has to work! πŸ˜€ I hope False Prince gets adapted into a movie because this is literally my most favourite series ever! I love it even more than Percy Jackson and to me, that’s saying something.

    • Thanks Dot! I’m glad you’ve enjoyed this series! Keep your fingers crossed for a movie – I am too! And I LOVE that you are writing your own book – keep going!

      • I love this series <3
but i kinda hope they dont make a movie because im so scared they would destroy the perfection of the books and the way us reads imagine the characters would totally get messed up πŸ™

        • That’s always a risk, I agree. But the screenwriter is awesome, so I think they’re giving it the best shot for a good adaptation.

          • Ya they have ruined the book with many different movies, but somehow I think it will be different for this trilogy

  228. Hi Mrs. Nielson!! You are my favorite author and I can’t wait for The Shadow Throne to come out!!!!!I was so inspired by you that I am writing my own book myself with a friend! One thing I wanted to clarify was the release date of The Shadow Throne. Is it on March 1, 2014 or Feb 25, 2014? Thanks so much!!

    • Thank you, Ekaterina! I am so glad you’re doing your own writing – good luck on your projects! The release date of The Shadow Throne is Feb 25, 2014. it was moved up from its original release of Mar 1.

      • Im pretty sure that you have enough fan mail Mrs. Nielsen, so instead of talking about how awesome your books are, I will make a suggestion. You may want to make another series that is connected to this one like the Warriors series. that will make people love it even more. Also so far in all my reading, i haven’t found a single book as amazing as yours, this tops every book i have read. Believe me, i have tried to find a book better than yours and i have failed. When i normally read an astounding book, i try to find a better one, but so far nothing tops yours. You have so many fans, I think they will be disappointed extremely if you don’t make another series like the False Prince

        • That’s a great suggestion, Ashish, and I appreciate your thoughtfulness on this idea, as well as you being a reader. It’ll be interesting to see where my next few years of writing goes…

      • I LOVE YOUR BOOKS!!!!!!!! They are amazing!!! You are a great author. You can really inspire people. I can’t wait to read your new book soon!!!

  229. Hello! I am a huge fan of your books and i am very grateful because you have become a great inspiration to me. I cannot wait until the new book comes out!! Reading is a way to escape reality into an unknown world, and you have taken my mind and imagination into the next level. I am ten years old, but even so, I enjoy the suspense that you always have in your books and I just wanted to say to keep it up. I dream of becoming a writer and one day being as good as you are in making people happy with your books. I promise, I’ll be first in line at Barnes and nobles here in Hawaii to buy your books! ( and probably MANY MANY more!!)

    • Kiana, just from this post I can tell how intelligent you are and how well you manage words. I definitely hope you get into writing one day. And thank you!

      • Thank you! I am really happy. Hearing that comment made my day. And hearing it from you… wow. I don’t know what to say. I have a question, though. How did you come up with this? One of the main reasons that I don’t write much is because I lack inspiration. Could you give me a few tips on how to find it? I really look up to you and can’t wait for the next book to come out! Thank you for being a HUGE inspiration to me, and using some of your own time to write back. Have a nice day!!

        • Kiana – To find out what inspires you, start paying attention to what you’re doing when you do get ideas. Are you listening to music, on a walk, just laying on your bed? Once you know that, really dive into that to find your next story idea. Another thing to do is to pay attention to what makes you love a story – maybe it’s the danger, maybe it’s the type of romance, maybe it’s the humor. Get really specific on what attracts you to a story, then start with that as the thing you want to bring into your own writing. Good luck!

  230. Hey Ms. Nielsen,
I finally published that book of mine (Post Tantrum Strategy Detonation). . .well, one of fourteen anyway. Publicising is the protocol – and I probably spelled publicising wrong, but I don’t feel like googling the correct spelling right now, so we’ll leave it at that – and on this one website where I previewed my book for whoever happens to be nosing about, the website all but murdered my formatting . . . Oh, bother; oh, bother.

Anyhow, I again express to you how much I appreciate your work, and I’d probably read The False Prince again if not that I’m already scheduled to be reading college textbooks for the foreseeable future . . . and arguing with my adviser . . . maybe – I’ll probably read it over the summer, though.
Another anyhow – and I would try to smooth this over, but really I don’t feel like it right now, hence I’m just going to come out with it – presuming greatly that you aren’t necessarily totally busy, that you actually don’t care that much about like an hour of your free time, that you’re carying around about 2.99 on your debit card for no apparent reason, that you have a kindle app, and that you wouldn’t really rather be writing the Shadow Throne, here’s the link to amazon where you can buy my book, or just read the preview – that’d suffice:

Thanks, and if you thought that was too rude, feel free to tell me – just read the preview . . .Pretty please ;)<

    • Elisabeth, that’s a thoroughly delightful invitation. I’m smack in the middle of revisions right now, so my reading time is quite spare. But I’ll remember this invitation, just in case. Congratulations on your publication!

      • Fair enough. – THANKS πŸ˜‰

  231. I don’t know what happens in the third book but, have you considered writing a second trilogy following the False prince, runaway king, and Shadow Thrown?

    • Taylor Ann – It’s a good suggestion. Anything’s possible, right?

  232. I.AM.SO.EXCITED. I SWEAR IMMA BURST ANY MOMENT NOW. breathe in breathe out. ok im calm. I really hope Sage will end up with Imogen….I know Amarinda is a good person and all but still… well its Mrs. Jennifers choice, but at any rate I AM SO EXITED !!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Rashida – Yes, it’s coming close to the book’s release! And all of those are good things to hope for. I hope you’ll like what happens!

  233. Hello Mrs.Neilson. If you take you time and read this then i’m very grateful.

FIrst of all i’d like to acknowledge you amazing writing skills. I love the way you make each person’s characteristic so unique, especially Jaron.(you’re so good at choosing names). I also love the way you make your stories suspenseful . My mind literally did a backflip finding out Sage was the real prince in the first book. I also like that you don’t force romance into the story because some authors do that and it’s just so cheesy. Instead you make problems for them which actually makes it interesting. We could tell from the time Sage and Imogen met they would have feelings for each other, yet you did not let them admit to each other in the first book. By the time Jaron asked Imogen if she loves him I was so tense and excited to hear her answer.

I really hope Imogen ends up with Jaron because honestly I think Jaron’s love for Amarinda would be fake. And if they developed feelings for each other, there would still be Imogen to consider because Jaron’s love for her wouldn’t flatter. We can tell he loves her more than a friend. Anyhow, it’s your book so it’s really up to you.

This might seem silly, but I don’t really know how to pronounce Imogen. I don’t know if the “g” in her name would be pronounce like a “g” or a “j”. If you can reply to this and tell me, i’d be very much appreciated.

One final word, You are such a big inspiration to me. I wanted to be a writer since I was younger. I’ve always had ideas for stories but though they was babyish.
I used to think books on kings and queens were lame, but after reading your books I realized if a person can make a book involving kings and queens and still make it interesting, then what can’t he do? I hope you know you are a big part of my book-life and my imagination.

Thank you, in reasons more than I can say and express. It would be great if you responded, thought if you don’t I completely understand. If I have offended you in any part of this, please forgive me. Thank you once again Mrs.Neilson, and I wish you the best in your next book, The Shadow King.(By the way, the cover is amazing as is the title.) I can’t wait for it to come out!!!!!!

    πŸ™‚ <3 πŸ™‚

    • Thanks for your post – that’s all so kind! I’m so glad you’re interested in writing, and I hope you’ll keep up with it. I also hope you’ll enjoy the way things work out in The Shadow Throne, with all the characters you love most. And for Imogen, the way I pronounce it is Im-(rhymes with him)-o-(long o like “go”)-gen-(like Jen).

      Happy reading!

  234. This might be a silly question, but I’d mean a lot to me if you answered it. Me and my friends pronounce Imogen in different ways. A couple of us pronounce the “g” as a “j” and a couple of us as a “g”. Which one is right? and if it’s neither then can you please tell me how you pronounce it? Thank you

    • Ah, I think I just answered this one below! Thanks for asking!

      • Oh, im sorry. I didn’t see that someone else asked that already.

  235. OMG! when i realized there was a third book i freaked out!(i know, i figured out late!) I NEED THAT BOOK~

  236. Just recently my teacher showed me the FalsePrince and i thought I would hate it but then i was half way through it and I didn’t want to finish it, then my teacher showed me the Runaway King and i rushed through it and now im also finished the RunawayKing. Cant wait for the next book thanks for the series

    • Thanks, Joe! I hope you’ll like The Shadow Throne when you do get a chance to read it!

  237. I picked up your first book to give to my brother on a field trip a few months ago under the impression that he’d love it. I said I’d read it first but he hasn’t read it yet. Oh well, more awesomeness for me. When I found out about Jaron I honestly couldn’t help but laugh for a moment only because that is my other brother’s name and he is pretty darn mischievous. I haven’t read but a sample of book 2 yet but only because I’m waiting for book 3 to get both at once. Me and my friend are anxiously waiting and I wish the time would go by faster.

You’ve heard this a lot by now but you are an amazing author and you should keep doing what you’re doing~

    • Thanks, Johneen – I appreciate you reading this series and recommending them to others. I hope you’ll enjoy the rest just as much. (And I also hope your brother will get to the books soon!)

      • From what I have read of The Runaway King I am currently hooked and just waiting with bated breath for the next time I could go to the store. If only my library had the book. *sigh* (And yes I’ll try to get him into it but he complained about how my copy was bent and a couple pages had that wavy effect from water damage and said he wouldn’t read it unless I got a better copy. Oh, children. Hopefully I can find another copy somewhere πŸ™‚ )

        • Thanks for reading (and good luck finding a copy)!

          • Anything to support something this awesome. (And yes, I need to find one, especially because when I eventually leave the house I’m taking my copy with me. And he can have some nice books to take care of)

  238. Dear Jenifer
Let me start by saying the false prince and the runaway king are so amazing. Can you tell us any spoler for this new book? Also after this is relise waht other books are you thinking of makeing

    • Thank you, Rose. Here’s the Goodreads summary for Praetor War: The new series follows a boy in ancient Rome where powerful forces struggle for control of a hidden magic; the boy becomes embroiled in a fight for freedom, survival, and the safety of the future.

I can’t answer your other question yet…but soon!

  239. Your books are amazing, i have been inspired to write my own book. Just that every time i start i don’t feel like going on longer. But thank you for writing these two amazing books so far! I can barely wait any longer for your new book! Keep writing, I hope.

    • That is awesome you’re writing too! If you have trouble getting motivated to keep writing, maybe think about giving your characters some additional problems. Like, a really good, really awful problem. And I hope you’ll enjoy THE SHADOW THRONE too – it comes out on February 25! War is Coming…

  240. Only 22 days left…22 days of depressing anxiety and then we shall all be whole…

    • Even fewer days now! Look how fast the time is passing! πŸ˜‰

  241. Please do a spin-off. Your books are fantastic and it would be amazing if the series never ended.
