Are those names for a Night Divided and the Mark of the Thief? It says it at the bottom, but I’m not exactly sure. I think Aurelia is a pretty name…

Yep, those are the names of characters from books I’ll release this year. The Shadow Throne in paperback, Mark of the Thief (Nic, Aurelia, Crispus), and A Night Divided (Gerta, Fritz). I love the name Aurelia too.

I hope you have a very merry Christmas! I would like to thank you so much for making my Christmas so amazing. My father emailed you about signed copies of the Ascendance trilogy, and it is the best gift I have ever received. And I also can not tell you how thankful I am for the arc of Mark of the Thief! I really hope you can come to the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky area sometime in the future. The Ascendance trilogy has made such a big impact on my life, and I love it! Please, never stop writing! Again, thank you so much and I hope you have a Christmas that was as amazing as mine. 🙂

Having that small role to play in your Christmas was my honor, Amber, and it’s your dad who you have to thank. I’ll never stop writing, so thank you for being a reader!

Mid-February, I expect (though remember that the decision could go either way)!

Well, they’ll say yes if I buy 1,021 copies of each book and show up at Hollywood going “I WANT A MOVIE!!!”
Well, maybe. If I can get my dad to drive me to Hollywood. :/
I’m crossing my fingers!! (which makes it very hard to type. okay, uncrossing my fingers now)

If it’d help, Tori, I’d ask you to get in your car right now and head to Hollywood (I hope it’s not too long of a drive)! As it is, we’ll have to wait until February to hear their decision! And I know all about the challenges of typing with crossed fingers – been doing that for months! 😉

Holy poop, I discovered there might be a movie and I started flipping out but I really hope you kept the rights to pick Sage and help direct because there is a very fine line between liking him or not. If he smirks too much, I feel that he will seem too arrogant and turn people away. He has a kind heart, but he hides it well and I am concerned that will easily be missed in a movie adaptation. Also make sure it has good music and changes up the shots and stuff because that will really change a lot of stuff for the viewer. Okay okay, you are older than me and its your story so you are entitled to do with your story as you see fit 🙂 I really hope it turns into a movie!

          • January 2, 2015, 4:55 am

Kailyn, yes I definitely agree that the casting of Sage will be make it or break it for the movie. I think it’ll be very tricky to find an actor who can portray him just right; however, if they find an actor who nails that role, it’ll be awesome to watch. Unfortunately, I won’t have any decision-making role in any part of the movie, if one is made. Like you, I’ll be crossing my fingers! I should have more news in mid-February. Stay tuned to the blog then!

In reply to the previous conversation, I’ve aways imagined Sage as being the actor who played Prince Philips from Maleficent. Just an idea. : )

I agree with Kailyn completely. I’d hate it if they did Jaron wrong! Also I definitely think they should have good music. After all, music is my 4th favourite thing (after Jaron, the Ascendance Trilogy and books in general)

Music is important to me too, Cara, so I definitely agree!

The books have set very high expectations for the movie adaptation… If they get Sage/Jaron wrong, I promise I’ll make a trip down to Hollywood and yell at the directors for ya. 🙂
    Happy (late) New Years!

Hi, Scarlette! Thanks very much for your kind words. No movie news yet – it’ll probably be another month before I hear anything. At the start of book 1, Jaron is almost 15, and by the end of the last book, he is almost 17. Tobias is a little younger, Roden is a little older. Imogen is a little older, but not by much. Amarinda is the oldest, about a year older than Jaron.

Hello again! I was wondering if you know when Mark Of The Thief is available for pre-order? I’m not sure if i have asked you yet. I”m very excited to be able to read another book by you. Your work really is amazing and I aspire to one day be as good as you when it comes to writing! T’m probably going to read The False Prince. The Runaway King and The Shadow Throne again because I feel like I’m never in my life going to find a book I’ll like as much as those. I’m reading other books at the moment as well and I have a ton more books that I plan on reading. Once I finish reading those I’ll be able to Relax and re-read The Ascendance Trilogy. I almost(I’ll also be getting it next time I head tot the book store)got the book 100 Sideways Miles. Have you ever heard of it? I’m not sure why but it reminded me of you for some reason. It looks really good and is highly rated by people who have read it. It seemed like something you would like, just by some of the books I have heard you liked. I think it’s like about people trapped in a novel or something? I’m not entirely sure. anyway, I went way off topic with that.. Sorry. Thanks a bunch! Warmest Wishes! -Dakota Rose

Hey Dakota! You should be able to pre-order Mark of the Thief anywhere you usually buy your books. I hope you’ll enjoy it! I haven’t read 100 Sideways Miles, but I’ll be sure to check it out! Best wishes to you –

Happy belated holidays. The only thing that could have made them any better would have been more Ascendance books. Instead, my Christmas gift to me was re-reading The Shadow Throne.
The other day I was examining my writing habits and I began wondering about yours. I don’t really have much of a ‘planning’ or ‘revision.’ I kind of just know how I want it to go and change as I go along. Do you have a story all planned out before you write it? Do you write the whole thing and the revise or change it as you go along?

Hi Kaitlin. Thanks for your kind words. For me, planning and revision are 90% of the writing process. A good plan of what I want to write is like creating a map before you go on a trip. The better the outline, the fewer wrong turns I take. And I believe revision is where ordinary writing really becomes art. I revise as I go along but then really dive into it once the story is finished. My standard is that I revise until I can’t make the story any better, just different (or until my editor says to stop revising and send it to her, whichever comes first)! 😉

Nic definitely has a few similarities to Jaron, but he’s his own person. I think Nic and Jaron would get along well though, which is no small thing for either of them!

I finished the book (sorry it took so long I was reading the maze runner series and then winter break came and I don’t read in it) and there is only one word to describe it. AMAZING. But i have one question. Is Radulf XXXXXX…?

Hi Adam. Thanks so much for this feedback! I’m beyond thrilled that you enjoyed Mark of the Thief. Since the book isn’t released yet, I did edit your question to avoid spoilers, but the answer is yes. Radulf is, and this will have huge consequences for book 2. Thanks again!

It has been a while since I have been on this blog. As a Christmas gift I had asked for many books, one being The Shadow Throne, seeming as I owned the other 2 I would then have a complete trilogy. As I had opened my presents, I saw it and I squealed. I still have yet to read it, but I plan on reading it soon. I haven’t read the other 2 for a little bit so I may have to re read them before I read The Shadow Throne. I hope you had a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. And same goes to Sage, Tobias and Roden.
