An Update on Everything Jennifer Nielsen January 26, 2018

An Update on Everything

The title says it all. I’ll go in reverse chronological order…

What are you writing now?

I am about to start edits on TRAITOR’S GAME 2, a book which I think is the perfect follow-up for the first and really pushes the story, and Simon and Kestra, into really exciting places. We should have a final manuscript late this spring.

I am writing the first draft of my third historical, not yet announced, which I will start edits on over the summer and which is scheduled to be released in the fall of 2019. Its initials are TBS and I am in love with this story.

I am also beginning to outline a duology that is strange and totally different from anything I’ve done before, and which I literally cannot wait to write! Its initials are BI.

WRATH OF THE STORM paperback, Jan 30, 2018

If you’ve missed any of the Mark of the Thief series, the paperback of the final book is coming out next week. This is my favorite ending I’ve ever done for a book or series so if you’re wondering what to read next, I hope you’ll check this out.

A WARP IN TIME By Jude Watson, Jan 30, 2018

This is the third book of the HORIZON series begun by Scott Westerfeld. I did book 2, DEADZONE, and now the adventure continues, beginning with a most unexpected surprise – there are other survivors!

THE TRAITOR’S GAME Feb 27 2018

I am so excited about this book! It has been included on “Most Anticipated YA Books of 2018 by Hypable, Barnes & Noble, and other sites. A book trailer is coming soon for the book, but you can read excerpts from it HERE. Also, if you want to find me on tour for the book, I’ll be HERE.

A NIGHT DIVIDED paperback, April 24, 2018

This book is finally going to have a paperback, but it’s a special edition, containing extra facts about the Berlin Wall, some additional information from me, and…ta da! – an excerpt from RESISTANCE (see below)!

Additionally, movie rights have been optioned for A NIGHT DIVIDED and I know the screenwriters are already hard at work on a script. There’s no telling where things will go from there, but it’s still very cool!

RESISTANCE, August 28, 2018

This historical, based the Jewish teen couriers of World War 2 era Poland, is complete. The publisher is working toward a final cover design and I hope I get to show it to you all soon, because it is so freaking awesome!

THE ASCENDANCE TRILOGY

Many of you are still wondering about the status of a possible movie. All I can say (because it’s all that I know) is that a production company is still attached to this series, but a lot of work is now involved to detach the project from Paramount and look for other interested parties, so it will be some time before there’s any concrete news to report. But as always, this blog is the first place I will make any big announcements.

So…any questions? I’ll answer them if I can!

I noticed that they had a paperback of Wrath of the Storm, and before I told myself that I would buy The Mark of the Thief and The Wrath of the Storm together when The Wrath of the Storm came out in paperback. Those two are the only two books I don’t have of yours. So I’ll have to get those two in paperback… THIS IS SO EXCITING< AND IT's MAKING ME SO HAPPY!!!!!!!!!! 🙂

When these go on to become movies might I suggest a few of my favorite actors….Ed Faulkner, Ruta Lee, James Spader, Cathy Garver, Roberta Shore (a Utah favorite), Clint Walker and Barry Corbin. Also…I could provide the food. I would do that.

Love your many successes! My Most Favorite is Night Divided. I could not put it down. I honestly read it in one sitting….

I’m not kidding- I finished the False Prince one day and started the next book that evening. I couldn’t put it down and kept reading until past midnight. I finished it before noon the next day and started the third book just as soon as I finished the second. Today, the day after I started it, I finished the series! I may be a fast reader, but I’ve never finished this long a book in that short of time. I never was able to take the phrase “I couldn’t put that book down!” until now. I loved the book!

I own the false prince trilogy and LOVE them to death. I have read them more times then i can count I got them in 8th grade and am now a senior in high school. The way you write is so good that every time I read them I reveal another hint to the ending or other foreshadowing pops out at me. It is soo crazy I love it and the characters, how they change and grow in each book. I also hope a movie comes out honestly if I could I’d love to be in it!!! But who wouldn’t want to be part of such an amazing adventure.Thank you for such an amazing trilogy!!!

We just started the runaway king and can’t wait to see what’s in store! Thanks so much for your creativity, please don’t ever stop writing. Your imagination is magical!
I started looking up movies and I ended up here. I sure do hope they put some out and when they do I hope they do them justice. There’s such a wonderful foundation for quite a few new box office hits! Sometimes I feel as if Hollywood’s always trying to remake or rush together crap instead of investing time in great concepts..I sure do hope your books get the recognition and screen time they deserve, until they do we’ll enjoy what you have to offer us. Books are almost always better anyways.

Hi! I borrowed the False Prince from the library a few years ago. I was immediately hooked! I absolutely loved reading it. A year or so later, my mom saw someone was selling a book trilogy online and asked if I would be interested in buying them. I looked at them and was startled to realize I recognized the first book. It was the False Prince, which I had so enjoyed! I then bought the whole series online and quickly read through them.

Since then, I have read them many times and thoroughly enjoyed them every time. I introduced my siblings to them and they have all loved them, too! You did a wonderful job writing the series. Jaron is my favorite character in all of the existence of everything! You did amazing and I just wanted to tell you that. I hope you keep writing!

P.S. I seriously hope someone makes a movie out of it. It would be so fun to see the characters come to life!

P.P.S. The first sentence of the Runaway King is still the greatest opening sentence to any book, in my opinion.

    Hello Mrs. Nielsen,

Thank you for all that you do. Your stories helped me last winter when I got 3 concussions and wasn’t allowed to do much. They have since then become my favorite books. I cried when I found out you were making a 4 and 5 book of the ascendance series. They also inspired me to(once I was healed) write my own trilogy.

this is my fav series (ever) and i hope you continue writing books, because u are AMAZING, and i thank you for having the spirit to write. because i know its hard, i try a lot and i fail (A LOT)

Okay Jennifer I am a HUGE fan my favorite books are the Ascendance Series! I have just finished the Captive Kingdom in one day!!
*SPOILER ALERT FOR ANYONE WHO HAS NOT READ CAPTIVE KINDOM*

Okay at the beginning Jaron kinda sounds like a jerk, but with all going on I would probably be a jerk too. And the part he Imogen says she thought it was their life now. It literally made me cry. And I normally never cry in books. I was just so ready to slap Jaron across the face for saying that. As a girl I said (out loud oops) “What the heck Jaron” My mom literally came in saying is everything all right? Anyway, huge fan of your books, by any chance, is a bool five coming out for the ascendance series?

    • Reply
      December 13, 2020, 1:41 am

Hi Abby – Jaron was supremely stupid for saying that, and he eventually figured that out, but the instinct in him not to be controlled is so strong, that if he feels backed into a corner, even by someone he loves, he will push back. So you’re right, he would have deserved a slap then, but he has said it himself before, that it is a simple thing for him to understand his enemies. He struggles every day with understanding love and friendship.

Hello, I am a huge fan of your writing! Earlier this year I read A Night Divided and greatly enjoyed it. On the cover it said, New York Times bestselling author of The False Prince. I then decided to get The False Prince. The book was phenomenal so I got The Runaway King, The Shadow Throne, and The Captive Kingdom. Altogether, I must admit, they are some of my favorite books ever! I say that about a lot of books, but when I say it, I mean it. These books bring me so much joy and I am highly anticipating The Shattered Castle! I like Jaron because he reminds me so much of the clever side of myself that I don’t let people see a lot. I’ve always loved books with relatable, funny, and sometimes quirky characters!
