Ten years ago, THE FALSE PRINCE was first released. I had told only a very few people that I was writing it and the day I sent it to my agent, I told my husband it would likely never sell, because it was a different kind of story with a ratherā¦unique main character.
No one has been more surprised by the success of this series than I have, and for that, I thank every one of you.
This video is a compilation of art, pictures, and feedback you have sent me. Be warned, it absolutely has spoilers. The music is from Jocelyn, who was a finalist in the Ascendance superfan contest a few years ago. I will also be creating a second video, because you all sent in more than I could fit into a single song!
In other news, I promised you a short story. Itās still coming. I will get around to writing it as soon as possible, but for the next month, my attention will be focused on the release of LINES OF COURAGE. There are some great prizes for those of you who pre-order the book, or who have done so already. Stay tuned for that!
And finally, the first meme I ever saw for THE FALSE PRINCE after its release! Still one of my favorites…

THIS IS LITERALLY THE COOLEST VIDEO EVER!!!! Everyone’s comments and artwork were superb and so full of gratitude for this series. I have yet to find an author who I reread more than you, Jennifer Nielsen. I have read the Ascendance series multiple times in one year alone, and cant get enough! Jaron has me laughing aloud, swelling with pride, and feeling pain right along with him. He feels like a best friend. The way you wrote the book, you let us see the sides to him that he wouldn’t let others, but you also let some gaps so that we still get surprised when he does or says things. All in all, this is UP-THERE in favorite books, and I cant thank you enough!
So awesome!
lol – love the meme. I saw another another false price meme that was really funny. it went something like ‘
friend: “hey what’s that book about?”
me: “its about how a bunch of kids try and overthrow the government only the kids are the government.
friend: “that doesn’t make any sense!”
me: “yes it does.’
But its really sad that Latemar had to die… he had lots of potential:(
I have a friend who read the false prince and is still devastated by his death.
Aww, the little meme at the end reminds me, Ms. Nielsen can we have a short story on Latamer?
Absolutely! I’ll put it on the list!
Thank You!
Wow, that video was beautiful. I hope that someday the books I write will help people the way yours have. And that meme makes me laugh every time I see itš
I’m very excited to read Lines of Courage and learn some more on WWI!
Congratulations Mrs. Nielsen! We love you!

(Already said this on another post but its true)
Love the Meme! That Was my first thought when I got to that page. Its actually what made me continue reading the book.
I’m really excited for the second one!! The video was really beautiful and I can’t believe you used mine <3 I still remember that meme from when I started getting obsessed with the Ascendance Series and started searching for memes lol
Is there a certain place to preorder Lines of Courage from if we want the special prizes?? š
I’m posting about that today…stay tuned!
Amazing art, quotes, and photos! Love the memes too!
Congrats Mrs. Nielsen on 10 years of an AWESOME series. These books will forever hold a special spot in this book-loving heart of mine. Best wishes to you and your writing!

Wow!!! If your book wasn’t a big success to the world, it would have been a great success to me it is amazing! I am excited to read Lines of Courage. I love war stories!!!
I was a super introverted kid. In about 2015 a family fried recommended The False Prince to me, I read the false prince about 4 times in one week then made all of my friends and siblings read itā¦it will always be one of my favorite books. At this point itās my go to bookā¦when people ask me for book recs, the first title out of my mouth is always The False Prince. Iāve read it about a thousand times and given more copies away than I can count, because everyone HAS to read it.
Thank you so so much for sharing this amazing story and for changing my life!
I teach this book in my classes and all my students love it! I was curious if you would be starting a new series with these characters as they are older and have children of their own? I heard at the end of the audio a few minutes with that exact premise but I am unable to find any further details. Thank you for creating these books. I adore Jaron and hope to read more from you! Thanks!
That is definitely an idea I have had!
I can’t believe it has been 10 years… This book is my all time favorite and it’s the first book I ever recommend to anyone. Jaron is an amazing character, and boy is he savage!
Anyways, congrats on all the success that The False Prince has acquired.
WOW, I love the Ascendance series so much I cannot explain I wish I was in it and wish it never ends thank you so much for writing these books Jennifer Nielsen no one can write like you.
10 years of an amazing series of books.
Such a great video with such amazing artwork! I loved it all! That meme is now my favorite meme! I was laughing so hard, that was great! I hope one day when I become a successful author like you, I will be able to bring joy into my books and peoples lives. It was all thanks to you!!
Nice vid Ms.Jen..Your books literally leave an impact to the lives of your readers. Kudos š and cheers for this milestone. Excited for your new book.
Awesome video! I loved the crossword puzzle and the music. Very good!
I’m so sorry I missed the post when it first, well, posted. This is so exciting, and such a special occasion!!! The video made me tear up. I can never thank you enough for The False Prince, Ms. Nielsen; it has touched me so deeply, and has meant, and continues to mean, so much to me, from when I first read it in high school to now, in my mid-twenties. Meeting you via Skype at your author visit in St. Charles was one of the best author experiences I’ve ever had (I’m forever grateful to my dad for bringing his iPad to make that possible, since I was at college and couldn’t make it down). You and your books continue to inspire me so much, and inspire me to work so much harder to write my own story and get it out into the world. I really hope to meet you in person one day. Much love <3
Thank you very much!
I love the ascendance series! It has helped me get away from reality and enjoy an amazing story. I have reared all the books many times!
I read this book for the first time in 4th grade and decided I wanted to be a writer because of it. 10 years later and I’m a college student majoring in Creative Writing. Thank you <3
Dang, that’s phenomenal! I can’t wait until we’re signing from the same side of the table.
Wow, thank you! Keep at it – get your name on a book!
It feels amazing that other people feel the same way about these books as me.
Love the video! Love the series! Nearly every student I introduced to The False Prince series enjoyed it. Great characters–great adventure. Congrats! Thanks also for that early morning Skype session back when the first book was on the Rebecca Caudill list!
I love everything about The False Prince series!! I know this is an old post, but I thought I would let you know how much I appreciate you imagining Jaron in your headā¤ļø
Hi I love your books so much.
I cannot express how grateful I am to you for writing this series, I’m so serious. I recently found this blog, but I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve read this series.
Thank you literally to the moon and back.
