January Update

There’s a reason I haven’t posted much lately. It’s because I’m terrible at posting. Also, because it’s
222,xitefun-stop-procrastinatingeasy to procrastinate. Also, because I’ve been sorta crazy busy with Ancient Rome stuff (see Update 5). Anyway, I do have some updates for you.

Update 1: There isn’t really any movie news. The screenplay is in revisions, and probably will be for many moons. So be patient. I promise, promise that I will shout it out if anything changes.

TST_largeUpdate 2: THE SHADOW THRONE releases on Feb 25 in the U.S., and Mar 6 in the UK and Canada. Foreign editions will be released when they’re translated. It should be available wherever you buy books, but ask if it’s not on their shelves. Please buy from an indie bookstore if possible.

If you want a signed copy from me, the best way to get it is to order online from The King’s English Bookstore. They’ll have me sign it and then mail it to you. You can order here now and get it signed and delivered the week of release!

Update 3: THE RUNAWAY KING will be released in paperback on Jan 28. Ditto from Update 2 if you want a signed copy. Order here now!

Update 4: I only have two public signings scheduled anywhere on planet earth right now. One is on Feb 25 at 7 pm at The King’s English in Salt Lake City. If you’re a Utah type, please try to come. I’ll bring cake, or something. Probably. The second is at Barnes & Noble Southtowne on Mar 1 from 1-4 pm. If you want a signed book, but can’t make it to meet me in person, see Update 2 and 3 above.

Update 5:Β Right now, what am I writing? I recently turned in the first draft of Book 1 of THE PRAETOR WAR to my editor. I’ll be working with her for a few months on revisions. I know some of you are having a hard time thinking about letting go of Jaron, but I think you’ll also learn to love Nic!

Finally, Update 6: There’s an announcement coming soon. Nope, not movie news, but other news that I’m really excited about. I’ve been waiting to talk about this for a long time, but hopefully it’ll be public in another week or two.

    Yes! Finally some updates.
Okay, here goes some opinions. 1. If it’s in revision, that means it’s finished right? Just needs editing, ΒΏverdad? 2. I can’t wait for The Shadow Throne. Gosh, it’s been months! 5. HOLY CRAP, HIS NAME IS NIC? I DON’T KNOW WHY THAT GOT ME EXCITED. I’ll always hold onto Jaron, just not so strongly. Ha-ha. I also can’t wait to read The Praetor War. 6. *eerie music* More waiting again…

Thanks, Ally! For revision, it means I’ve done a complete draft, but now it’s time for my editor’s eyes. And thanks on the rest!

So excited that the movie is moving along, even if it’s slow. And that you’re working a new series. So can’t wait to read it.

And you’ve got me SO excited for your new news. Glad things are going so well for you.

Seems like you are having fun being the wonderful writer you are. Love the updates. I hope to come say hi to you at least one if your 2 signings.

As for your new series, I’m excited. Yes, I love Jaron, but I also loved Eliot. I’m sure Nic will win my heart and many others. Congrats on your new series.

I’m anxious to hear what secret you’ve been keeping. πŸ™‚

I’m so pumped for The Shadow Throne! I plan on ordering from The King’s English Bookstore.
my excitement is through the roof!

It’s great that you finished the first daft. The history geek in me is freaking out right now at the thought of reading it. Good luck with the revision process! I can’t wait to go on an adventure with Nic once The Praetor War comes out.

Oh, I wanted to ask out of curiosity, do you think this series would be Young Adult, Middle Grade, or something else?

Why must you end by dangling that announcement over me? haha!
You’ve most definitely peaked my interest.

Thank you, Katherine. The history geek in me had a great time researching it! The book should be about where The False Prince is, an upper middle grade that can be enjoyed by older readers as well.

And the dangling announcement – gah, I’ve been literally waiting for MONTHS to talk about it. I’m so excited to share it.

Awesome! I’m looking forward to the release.

I can’t wait to find out what it is. My anticipation is killing me!

Wow! My dad is a big Roman history geek, so I feel like this will be right up my alley- but doubtless I’ll be open-mouthed in shock as the plot unfolds.

Also, Nic sounds like an awesome name. Slightly less herb-ish than Sage (haha, isn’t it funny to compare Sage to a herb? Imagine him all green and docile. Gosh, I’m making no sense…).

Oh dear, now I fear I’ll be checking your blog every hour until you announce whatever it is you’ve been waiting moons to share.. πŸ˜›

Okay, so first of all you are like the best writer ever!!!
Also, I went to The King’s English Bookstore” and I was going to order a signed copy of “The shadow Throne” (yay!) but I wasn’t sure if it was going to come signed or not since it didn’t say so anywhere besides on the blog. So, I just wanted to know how the book gets signed even though I am going to order it anyway. Thanks and I REALLY hope you reply! It would be SO amazing if you do!

Thanks, Angelica. The way it works with King’s English is when you check out (actually buy the book), there’s a place at the bottom to leave comments. You put there that you want it signed to you, and then King’s English gives me that note. But if you don’t get it there, I hope you’ll still find a chance to read it.

The first thing I thought after reading this was: Nic! I have a name now! A NAME! I’m excited to read the Praetor War series, though I will have trouble letting go of Jaron… maybe after both the series are out of the way….? Sequel series…? I heard the idea about Jaron’s daughter and I was all like: YES! DO IT! After Praetor War of course. Then again, by then I might love Praetor War so much I’ll want you to do a sequel series to that πŸ˜‰ Have fun with the PW series (I’m sure we all will). Is it going to be a trilogy again? More books than 3? No? Yes?

Thanks Brinley! I would love to do more books in The False Prince series, but nothing is planned right now. As to PW – it’s going to be a trilogy as well, and I’m really excited for it to start moving into the world. I think Nic is a pretty awesome kid, and he’s got a cool story to tell.

I don’t want to let go of my Sage [shh, don’t tell Imogen!]……. >.> He’ll always be in my heart- and in the pages of The False Prince!
I’m putting my trust in you Jenn, I know Nic is going to be my next Book crush because you’re writing him, and you wrote Sage perfectly!

Alas, sorry to say that I’m not able to make that announcement yet. Soon though (I hope). (But don’t get your hopes up either – I”m excited, but it’s not like earth-shattering stuff either, y’know?) πŸ˜‰

Ordered my copy of “The Shadow Throne” today! Can’t wait to see what war has wrought. Neither can my wife and daughter. You’ve peaked my interest with Update 6. Patience is not one of my virtues, but I guess something I need to practice in this case. πŸ™‚

Thanks for asking, Brandon – here’s the answer from my FAQ page: Sage came to me in a song by Eddie Vedder (lead singer for Pearl Jam) called β€œGuaranteed.” The lyrics said, β€œI knew all the rules, but the rules did not know me, guaranteed.” I loved those lines and the more I turned them in my head, the more Sage’s character became clear. And once I had Sage, I had the story.
