I never intended to write a World War 2 / Holocaust-era novel. My respect for the stories of that period is so high that I wondered how I could possibly add anything new enough, valuable enough, to matter. But the story found me. A few years ago, I was in Poland for a school visit and with my husband touring the former Jewish ghetto in Krakow. The more I saw, and learned, the more sacred these streets became.
